The 1976 model year saw the introduction of the now sought after Carrera 3.0 from Porsche. Featuring widened rear flares, a 930-sourced engine and optional whaletail spoiler; the Carrera 3.0 was produced for only two years and was available in every market except North America. Originally delivered to a diplomat in Switzerland, this 1977 example had seen the roads of England and South Africa before being transferred to Germany. It then made its way to Tarzana, CA in 2016. This stunning Carrera 3.0 shows 179k Kilometers (111k miles) and is being offered for auction in great overall condition.
Originally finished in black, this 3.0 has been repainted in gorgeous Prussian blue. The exterior is blemish free having never suffered any rust or damage. The paintwork is said to stand in exceptional condition. Signature 3.0 accents include the iconic whaletail spoiler as well as the black Carrera side script. This Carrera rides on highly desirable freshly restored Turbo spec 7" x 16" & 9" x 16" Fuchs wheels.
Inside, this Carrera is fitted with an original full black leather interior. Truly hiding its age, the interior remains in great shape, only showing minor wear including a blemish in the driver’s seat piping. The carpets and headliner are in excellent condition and bear no unsightly imperfections. This car features electric power windows and has been equipped with an aftermarket AM/FM cassette player. Additionally, this vehicle was ordered with a sunroof delete, making it that much more special.
The Carrera 3.0 is powered by what is essentially a naturally aspirated variation of the same 3-liter flat-six from the venerable 930 Turbo. This power plant produces 200HP and utilizes a lightweight six-bolt flywheel and the same crankshaft from the legendary 2.7 RS. A desirable, period correct rebuilt 915 5-speed manual transmission has been installed replacing the original 3-speed “Sportomatic” transmission. This visceral engine/drivetrain combination makes for a 0-62 time of 6.1 seconds and a top speed of approximately 147mph. An included two-page invoice details a full engine rebuild by Lynx Motor Sport in South Africa at 176,908 kilometers. A recent, comprehensive service and inspection by The Auto Gallery in Woodland Hills noted that the tachometer stops working above 4k rpm’s, but confirms that this highly original 3.0 is in excellent running order.

@Pelicanlead-23 I see down the list of comments, the car is in Montana for some reason? Mods on a car being valued as an "original" greatly reduce its value as an original. Looks like a fun car if one buys it right and isn't counting on resale as and Original, unmolested, example. That ship has sailed.

Not "original" The Motor and transmission alterations, Re-spray, Staggered wheels, suspect upholstery takes this car south of original. Albeit modified, this should be a fun driver. Still wondering where it's physically located today.

Where is this car actually located? The high miles suggests the car has had a full life. Was it restored? How many miles on the rebuilt 3.0?

@eurocol Sorry for the followup question but it seems that the interior has been redone. The Porsche documentation says the center sections of the seats should be perforated leather. The photos look like that non-perforated. Am I seeing that correctly?

FYI - the zinc bath you referred to, actually began in 1970 and was only applied to one side of the steel. Thyssen type steel (zinc on both sides) was introduced in mid 1972 on parts most susceptible to rust (floor pans, inner/outer rocker panels. In 1975 the entire car was produced in Thyssen with the exception of the roof. In mid 1976 -77, the paint failure on predominantly Euro cars and some ’76 US cars was attributed to the the Thyssen chemical formula and it was modified in ’77-’78 model years. But, the roof material was never galvanized, and remains the culprit for the rear window lower corners’ rust.
Are the window frame trims (doors and quarters) painted or anodized?
@eurocol Obviously sorry I said anything, that was a response. I just called my local Municipality and they said that they could not license any left hand drive vehicle. I tired to bring over a 1975 and gave up after the trouble with SARS. Suspect what you found is not implemented at the licensing offices, or dated. Considering there are very few miles on this since it was here it had to be fairly recent. Also may be that no license was kept on it. Collector cars that are not on the road don't require a number plate.
There was no shot at Lynx. They are about 1200km from me so had not used them, as I said.
Still one very nice looking car.

The vehicle was built in 1977 and imported by the first Owner,
copies of the original S.A. title and registration are contained in the service file.
As for your comment on Lynx Motorsport, that you have never used, they are a highly rated Independent Porsche shop that has been around since 1987,

Will start this off that I believe this is a beautiful car, love the colour. There have been various questions posed that makes some wonder about the providence. Seller has been very open about the issues. Mine is the time IN RSA. Lynx is a shop here. I have never used them so have no clue on the quality. My problem is the car being in RSA and licensed. We have not allowed left hand drive models on our roads for as long as I can remember. I can't see the documents for the period it was here. If they show a license plate that starts with GP then the owner had some sly way of making it legal.

@Glennb I'm just getting to the questions as it was not letting me respond earlier.
The "highly original" was not my language and I have addressed that and asked it be removed.
I am a Zone PCA judge and the paint is beyond reproach, other than a little scrape on the driver's side mirror, pictured, it was a full windows out bare metal respray to exceptional show winning standards, and reassembled with all new rubber, see detailed close up pictures to see depth and quality.
The paint and body are of John Esposito quality, and would cost in excess of $ 25k to replicate today.
Pre 1979 cars are not more prone to rust as you say, the zinc bath had long been introduced by 1977, and as stated this car has had nether rust nor accident damage.
Floors are virgin with Factory undercoating and devoid of bad jack placements.
Dashboard is original to the car with one hairline crack at right angles to the windshield, pictured,between the front 2 defrost vents.
The center caps are not on the car as I like that look, and it reduces unsprung weight,
:), a set of Factory caps will accompany the sale.
The plastic beading on the ingress of the driver's door is cracked, and is easily repaired, the leather seats are all original, the leather is subtle and in extraordinary condition, a testament to the car's mileage and gentle use.
The stock gear shift knob would be a black plastic and is readily availably for just a few dollars.
The Porsche Certificate states it had a/c at one time.
I am not trying to pass this car off as a Porsche Parade National Winner,
simply as a wonderful looking and driving 42 year old rare Porsche in exceptional condition, so so let's look at it for what it is, and not for what it isn't.

Car was fully restored in S.A. in 2011 with receipts including full engine rebuild, full windows out repaint in Prussian blue and fresh rebuilt 5 speed 915 manual gearbox,
all just under 1.500 miles ago.
The car was been serviced at Woodland Hills Porsche Main Dealer in 2017 and 2018 with no faults found other than the erratic intermittent tacho. A faulty ground wire.
The vehicle passed smog in 2018 and I will delivered a fresh smog should the car stay in CA.

@MarkofromTropoja Agree, fresh restoration, with change of colour repaint, installation of a rebuilt 915, 5 speed gearbox and upgraded restored 930 wheels with 16" x 9" rears, is not original, but makes the car much more fun to own and drive.
Beautiful car and poetic description, but I’m a bit dubious about your “highly original”, “collectible” opinion, since the Porsche certificate of origination describes it as a Black, automatic with a Blaupunkt radio. Do you have details as to the color change painting? Was it a down to metal, or paint over paint? These pre-’79 cars are more susceptible to rust and I see mold/mildew on the passenger seatbelt. Is the upper dashboard lifting and is it cracked? Do you have the missing cent caps? The “blemish” to the piping on the driver’s seat is actually missing material and can’t be repaired without recovering the upholstery. Do you have the original gearshift knob? There looks like A/C controls on the center console but I don’t see a compressor - was it air conditioned one time? Do you have photos of the undercarriage?

Cool car and the 3.0s are a hoot to drive. Call me crazy, but “highly original” should not be in the description when it has undergone a color change repaint.
