In 1989 Porsche 944 received a larger and more powerful 2.7-liter engine. These were special one-year-only models making them rare. This 1989 Porsche 944 underwent a comprehensive restoration under previous ownership. It has been refinished in gold over blue leather upholstery and features a 5-speed manual transaxle, a sunroof, a rear spoiler, rare 16” Club Sport forged wheels, pop-up headlights, fog lights, and cruise control. Showing approximately 168k miles on the odometer, this 944 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Michigan.

Reportedly repainted in its current gold hue approximately 10 years ago as part of a complete restoration, this particular model boasts distinctive features including pop-up headlights, fog lights, a rear spoiler, a rear window wiper, and a sunroof. Its aesthetic is further accentuated by refinished 16" Club Sport forged wheels wrapped in a fresh set of General G-Max tires. While well-maintained, the seller discloses minor imperfections, including a small rust bubble, a paint chip on the lower right doorsill, and a ding near the sunroof on the roof. Extensive imagery in the gallery provides a detailed visual inspection, supplemented by a CARFAX report revealing "minor damage" to the right rear in December 2017.

Inside, the cabin and seats are upholstered in factory blue leather, perfectly matched by a color-coordinated center console and door panels. Amenities include air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, aftermarket speakers, and an Alpine CD player with USB and Bluetooth compatibility. Additionally, a dash cover has been fitted. The seller has noted a couple of rips in the seat due to normal wear, and the air conditioning unit is not cooling properly, although the fan and heating are perfectly operational.

Power is derived from a 2.7-liter inline-four engine, a displacement exclusive to the last model year, and is delivered to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. It has been fitted with a new stainless steel exhaust system for enhanced performance. The seller notes the vehicle received meticulous maintenance from its previous owner, reportedly a certified Porsche technician. Additionally, the timing belt pulleys, tensioners, and water pump were replaced at 167k miles. As part of the restoration, the car had undergone further updates including new fuel lines, upgraded brakes, and front suspension components sourced from a Porsche 944 S2.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, a sales brochure, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “The seller would like you to know: “The 2.7 Ltr 1989 944s are extremely rare. This was the only year that Porsche sold the 944 with a more powerful 2.7 Ltr engine and less than 3,000 manuals were sold in the US. So it’s extremely rare to find a 2.7 Ltr in this condition. The wheels are also the rare Club Sport Forged wheels and are not easily available. If not for my 67' Mustang restoration I would have never sold it.”

@motorpsycho_46 Thank you so much for taking the time to inspect the car and bidding for the car, it definatetly shows your commitment. Regarding the 3 drawbacks -

    1) One small rust spot - I have clearly mentioned these during the listing. Also I should calrify when you say rust on body you make it sound like the car has major rust spots . It has a one quarter size paint chip and a little rust starting to form on the lower door sill on the right side door. I have also added detailed pictures of this spot.

    2) AC - I had mentioned that clearly in the listing as well

    3) Stiff Power Steering at low speeds is how the old Porche hydraulic power steerings were designed. I do understand that coming from only driven newer electronic power steerings this feels like a big change.
However please let me know if you have any other questions I can help answer.

Had a chance to test drive the car this weekend. The seller is a great guy - upfront and passionate about the car. I think this 944 could be a great deal, despite what I felt were 3 main drawbacks:

    1. Rust on body
    2. non-working AC
    3. Stiff power steering at low speeds.

I put my bid in - good luck with the auction to bidders and seller alike!

@zerokwh - Hi, I got the car in March- planning it as a summer drive. I don't have the center lid, I remember seeing one for sale on eBay but never got it. Unfortunately I don't have any details on the rear damage. But when I had got it the previous owner had mentioned that it had happened when they were parking and was minor. I tried looking hard while buying it, but couldn't spot any signs of damage or repairs.

Hello! Looks like a lovely 944! When did you acquire the car? Do you have any details on the damage report on Carfax? Also, do you have the center console lid that appears to be missing?

Hello fellow automotive enthusiasts - Thank you for taking interest in my 1989 Porsche 944 2.7 Ltrs manual.

This car has the coveted 2.7-liter engine – a powerplant that graced the 944 for only one year. With less than 3,000 manual variants ever sold in the US, this model offers a certain exclusivity, making it a prized possession for any discerning collector or enthusiast.

Furthermore, this car is fitted with Club Sport Forged wheels. These wheels, are also known for their rarity and desirability.

I had purchased this with the intention of making this as my summer driver, however I have just got a 67' Mustang restoration project which will require more space, time and resources.

I invite you to explore the listing and feel free to reach out to me with any inquiries. Your confidence in both me and this auction is important, and I'm committed to ensuring a smooth and transparent process for all interested buyers.
