Mercedes' original Geländewagen, the W460 G-Class, was meticulously hand-assembled in Graz, Austria. Featuring triple-locking differentials and rugged body-on-frame construction, it quickly earned its reputation as one of the most capable 4x4s ever made. This 1985 model, imported in 1986 by a passionate collector through Europa International, is a short-wheelbase 280 GE Cabriolet. It remained under their ownership until 2021 when it was acquired by the current owner, a meticulous collector who has maintained it with care. Finished in Light Ivory (DB-1623) over tan upholstery, this G-Class is now being offered for auction by its seller in Virginia while showing under 2k miles on the odometer.
This 280 GE is finished in Light Ivory (DB-1623) contrasted by a black manually retractable soft top. Exterior details include black rubberized trim, matching bumpers, fenders, and grille surrounds, a Mercedes-Benz emblemized spare tire cover, mudflaps, and silver-finished 15” alloy wheels wrapped in Goodyear tires from 2021. The seller notes that signs of the original Cosmoline are visible throughout the undercarriage. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, tan leather upholstery spans the seats, rear bench, and upper door panels, complemented by a black dashboard, center console, and four-spoke steering wheel. Equipment includes upgraded Recaro front seats reportedly upgraded by Mercedes-Benz for the original owner, VDO instrumentation, a Becker Grand Pix Electronic head unit, an analog clock, climate controls, cup holders, a locking glovebox, and a passenger-side grab handle. All gauges and electronics are reported to be working properly.
The 280 GE is powered by an M110.994 2.7L inline-six, factory rated at 156 HP and 167 lb.-ft of torque. A 4-speed automatic transmission delivers power to all four wheels through a full-time all-wheel-drive system with high and low ranges. Electronic locking differentials are also equipped at the drivetrain's front, rear, and center.

Mr. Hunter’s cars were something special. He had 5 vintage g -wagons that we know of. We purchased two. His Porsches won 4 consecutive Manhattan Trophies, they then retired it the trophy I’m told. His Porsche collection was spectacular and some of his cars are the cornerstone of important Porsche collections today. He was a piece of work!

Beautiful car - would love to bring it back to Germany. My uncle who worked 45 years for Mercedes-Benz in Untertuerkheim always came with a special car to our family reunions. I remember 2 cars especially - a 280 SE 3.5 convertible in silver (yes you guys in the US had the 4.5, it was not available in Germany as far es I know) and a car like this being sold now in this auction. I own a G-Wagon from 1995, would immediately swap it for this one!

Thank you to Quest for chiming in, we have not and will not remove any photos, all we have done is update and add video. Also I believe that GT2r-s is referencing oil change was done at 1715km and the next would be what Mercedes would recommend which is 10K kilometers.

@carsortium why did you remove the 2 documents which stated TMU and not the original speedometer?
It was standard practice back then to replace the speedometer

We are still working on verifying the info on KM / miles. The dates on the tire is 4921 which is the 49 week of 2021 and we had those put on.

Air conditioning does work and we will work to load the images showing temps, room 66 degrees, vents a/c off 69 degrees and then running AC for 4 minutes was 44 degrees
We did not get the original speedometer with the purchase however all the documentation tells the story. Working on getting the answer to the other question verified.

You have 2 different documents in your posting that both state the mileage is not the accurate miles
both statements say
" Not the actual milead and should not be relied upon because current MPH speedometer reading must be added to the previous KM reading for true mileage " so the km speedometer was replaced with the current MPH speedometer what was the mileage on the first km speedometer?

We are saying based on all the information this is 1800 miles as presented. We know the history of the family and he was a collector. He had many other cars with much lower miles in his collection as well.
We have never had it 75 mph, we have it up to 60-65mph on the interstate, however no more noisy then any other soft top / soft side vehicle.
How noisy with the top up cruising 70-75 mph? Buffering sound and sides flapping a lot? Great pics and looks like in very nice original condition!

based on the initial question and your message you had said 7.725 KM which means 4.785 miles. I do believe that GT2r-s could also be correct in his assumption, my last thought was maybe someone made a mistake in writing it down? We have updated with documentation and paperwork. Appreciate your feedback as well GT2r-s

I am not sure why CARFAX pops up in 2001 for the first time, at that point CARFAX may have had limited access to information. I am working to take photos of much of the documentation from the envelopes along with import documents and correspondences. Mr Hunter had issues with Virginia allowing it to be titled and I will add some of those documents as well. Thanks and I appreciate your patience as we get these online asap.

it shows an oil change done at 7.725 km or 4794 miles in germany ???
@dshemtob We are the second owners. We purchased directly from the first owners wife after he passed. The title reading 1764 miles and known mileage on odometer all documentation and paperwork included to be correct. Thanks for your interest.
