This 2005 Porsche 997 Carrera S Coupe is finished in Black over a matching leather interior and features a modified Chevrolet LS3 V8 engine swap. The engine used for the swap is reportedly from Hendrick GM Parts Center and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Factory equipment includes 19” Carrera S wheels, a Bose Surround Sound System, and more. This 911 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of North Carolina showing less than 90k miles on the odometer.

Finished in Black, the Carrera S differentiates itself from a standard Carrera by its red brake calipers and quad exhaust outlets. It rides on factory 19” Carrera S wheels wrapped in Greentrac tires. The seller notes paintwork on the passenger side door and quarter panel and has added a ducktail rear spoiler in place of the factory speed-activated wing. Some stone chips and scratches on the front bumper and driver’s door are also noted. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this Carrera S is upholstered in standard black leather with optional Porsche lettered mats and the optional Bose Surround Sound System. Amenities include automatic climate control and a multifunction steering wheel in leather. The seller reports to have fitted an aftermarket Kenwood head unit with a radio, XM, and backup camera. Some wear on the center console and driver’s door release handle are noted. All gauges and electronics are reported to work as intended, and the air conditioning is reported to blow cold, however, the PASM warning light and the rear spoiler are on due to aftermarket upgrades.

Replacing the original 3.8-liter flat-six engine is a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 that features an upgraded billet fuel rail, a custom exhaust with high-flow cats, factory mufflers, a billet engine/transmission adapter, flywheel, subframe bracket, and mounts. Additional equipment includes a Canton front sump oil pan and pickup, a custom wiring harness, fully functional gauges, a factory center mount third radiator kit, RSR electrohydraulic power steering, and Bosch fuel injectors. Producing up to 495 HP, power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. A Bilstein sport suspension with Eibach lowering springs has been installed and the car has been dyno-tuned by PCM of North Carolina. All conversion parts are reported to have been installed new and have less than 500 miles on them.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Please note this is a modified vehicle, with that said please check with your state motor vehicle departments regarding the vehicle inspection process, a GM e38 ecu controls the engine and has its own OBD2 port separate from the factory obd2 port that allows access to the standard Porsche body control module.”

@karq Hello, I am not sure if GM lets you transfer the warranty, The brakes are fine , they are Carrera S calipers, exactly the same on the c4 , Thank you

  • karq (registered bidder) 6 days, 10 hoursago

HI again, does the crate engine have a transferable warranty, did you upgrade the brakes? Did you use the same setup in the C4?

@Cheesepocket , Good morning, the engine is from GM parts Performance, it’s called the Hot cam engine, it’s comes with the cam installed from GM .The power steering is what Porsche uses on there race cars, you could use a GM power steering pump but with the electrohydraulic conversion it keeps the engine bay a lot cleaner looking and less load on the engine, Thank you

  • Cheesepocket (registered bidder) 6 days, 13 hoursago

Having done a few LS swaps, I know how much attention to detail the seller must have in order to make all the gauges work properly. Seller: did you do a cam swap on that crate engine? It has a lumpier idle than stock and looks to make around 460-ish crank HP (stock was 430) doing the math from the chassis dyno. Also, can you describe the power steering conversion? I assume there's not an easy way to run a stock PS pump from the LS and that's the reason for the electrohydraulic conversion?

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 6 days, 15 hoursago

@CBRacerX Good morning, Thank you, they are the stock. I talked to a couple people and they said that the stock axles are definitely good for around 500hp ,

  • CBRacerX (registered bidder) 6 days, 15 hoursago

Clean install. Looks like a great conversion. Did you use stock halfshafts and CV joints?

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 1 weekago

@GruppeG Good morning, that is the vent to the factory purge canister , it has been capped with a vent filter similar to the one you see on the ls valve cover filter , Thank you Carmen

  • GruppeG (registered bidder) 1 weekago

GM... In your YT video, there's an exposed connector to the left of the oil cap/filler. Could you advise what that item is, if its functional and if its not being used why it remains? In looking at other cars with the same conversion, this doesnt appear in any videos I cant find. Looks like a clean setup, thanks for the reply in advance.

@bensheed Good evening, it’s water , I had just finished washing the car and engine compartment, rest assure there are no fluid leaks on the vehicle, Thank you

  • bensheed 1 week, 1 dayago

What is the fluid that flies off the belt and lands on the taillight in the video?

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 1 week, 1 dayago

@997GT3 Good morning. CPE does not offer a flywheel shield, they said that they are working on one,

  • 997GT3 (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

Is there an optional part from CPE to cover the flywheel? Looks like it is exposed.

@WRENCH.56 The LS has hydraulic lifters so there is no adjustments required, Thank you

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

Another maintenance question, only because I have no experience with the LS3:
Are the lifters solid or hydraulic?
If they are solid, is it easy enough to gat the valve covers off and adjust them or do you need to partially lower the engine to gain access?

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

@WRENCH.56 So true all that power threw the real wheels is fun to drive

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

Good move doing another conversion on a C4S!
I have a 996.1 C4, and couldn’t help but think that all that LS3 hp and torque would do well with all 4 wheels getting it to the pavement.
But all that juice going into the rear wheels only is as close as I’m ever going to get to a GT2!

Any pictures of the suspension and brake areas?

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

@karq Hello,I do but if you go to the CPE website https://www.chavisperformanceengineering.com/ it details everything used for the conversion. I purchased the entire solution. Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures along the way , I was so pleased with the way it turned out I decided to build a C4S , widebody all wheel drive model that I just completed, that is the reason for the sale of this vehicle, it’s an absolute blast to drive , Thank you

  • karq (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

Do you have a list of the CPE parts used? What did you use to reroute the coolant fore and aft , any pictures of the project with the rear clip off. Would you do another? thanks

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

@Cummins990 Good morning, Yes the engine is a New Crate engine from GM parts performance, the A/ C works excellent and blows ice cold , Ive been in the automotive repair and sales for over 25 years and completed the entire conversion, I do have the paperwork for the parts that were used , Thank you

  • Cummins990 (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

Was the engine brand new? If not, how many miles were on it? Any receipts for the mods or other maintenance? Does the AC work? Did you do the swap?

  • OSI 1 week, 3 daysago

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

@WRENCH.56 Thank you for your interest, as far as serviceability, it is very serviceable, everything engine related is GM LS3 , the oil filter is free and clear of the sway bar and Custom billet crossover subframe, spark plugs are accessible from the top or bottom , oil fill is on the rear left of the engine bay and you can fill it with or without the use of a funnel, the oil dipstick is on the right side of the engine bay.Coolant from the engine connects to the factory Porsche aluminum coolant tubes .The entire install was completed without a lift with the rear of the vehicle on jack stands, Carmen

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

Any issues with access to regular service items?
I can’t see clearly in the photos, but does the rear sway bar interfere with removal of the oil filter? Are the spark plugs accessible? Does the LS3 use individual coils?
I assume the coolant access is identical to any other 997, right? How accessible is the oil dipstick and means of refill?
Are all these routine service items easily done by a DIY mechanic? I do have a lift.

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

@Hnguyen7986 Most of the conversion parts are from Chavis performance engineering CPE , Tyler is Great to work with .

  • Hnguyen7986 (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

What kit was used for this engine install? Custom? Off the shelf? Any documentation on the swap?

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 1 week, 5 daysago

It’s fantastic to drive , it pulls in every gear

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 1 week, 5 daysago

Too bad that I live 2,000 miles away.
I would kill to drive this beast!

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 1 week, 5 daysago

@WRENCH.56 Great question , the ls3 has an aluminum block and is actually a little lighter then the factory Porsche engine , I haven’t really noticed a difference in the vehicle, it is very similar to my base Carrera I have with the factory engine , Thank you

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 1 week, 5 daysago

Did the swap radically alter weight distribution?
Is handling significantly different from the stock configuration?
Much respect for pulling off such a radical conversion!

Can you share a driving video?

  • Autoxer2214 (seller) 1 week, 5 daysago

@aboyandhisdog I’ve gotten about 15-18 mpg depending on around town or highway

  • aboyandhisdog 1 week, 5 daysago

Full disclosure...I'm not in the market for another 997, but I am curious about what kind of mpg's you get with this engine? I know, I know, not something most here will care about - I'm just curious. Thank you, -Tom.
