Representing the most powerful R107 SL-Class roadster offered in the United States, this 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL is finished in Black Pearl Metallic over a Crème Beige leather interior. It was purchased by the second owner from Northland Porsche Audi in 1997 with less than 26k miles and remained in their family for the next 19 years. The third owner bought the car in 2016 and added approximately 5k miles over the following 8 years while overseeing $10k in documented maintenance. This 560SL is now being offered for auction out of Connecticut with approximately 78k miles showing on the odometer.

This SL-Class is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) with custom pinstripes and includes a matching removable hardtop and factory black convertible soft top. Equipment includes chrome trim and bumpers, dual chrome mirrors, a front air dam, quad headlamps, front fog lights, an automatic antenna, dual exhaust tips, and silver-finished 15” Gullideckel alloy wheels mounted with new Michelin tires. The seller adds that a paint correction was performed in 2017 and the car has been kept in a climate-controlled garage. Some minor imperfections are noted on the trunk lid along with a paint chip on one of the wheels. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with Crème leather (175) upholstery accented by burl walnut veneers, a black upper dashboard, and custom coco floor mats. Accessories include a four-spoke leather steering wheel, power windows and mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, a central locking system, and a Becker Grand Prix cassette stereo. The seller indicates new speakers have been added along with a Bluetooth audio receiver. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

A naturally aspirated and fuel-injected 5.6-liter V8 SOHC engine delivers up to 227 HP and 287 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission. Stopping power comes from power-assisted disc brakes at each corner. The suspension includes double wishbones in front, a diagonal swing axle in the rear, and stabilizer bars front & rear. The seller notes the air conditioning system was overhauled in 2021 and the suspension was refreshed in 2020 with new tie rod assemblies, steering linkage, damper, center drag link, and a wheel alignment. In 2022, the car received an oil change, new spark plugs, a new distributor cap and rotor, fuel filters, an air filter, and fresh fluids.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, additional floor mats, a Connecticut registration certificate, and a removable hardtop with a cover and stand.

The seller would like you to know: “This car is beautiful and extremely straight. We couldn't believe the cleanliness, especially when we put the car in the air. The undercarriage is clean as well. The mileage is but a number with this one, as it really is a nice car that was properly maintained over its entire life. The documented work this car has received over the course of its life is incredible! Looking forward to seeing this one live on for many, many more years.”

@Archer1 thanks! The pinstripe is tape. Looked to be hand painted, but further inspection we see it is a tape.

@autocorsa (seller)- Gorgeous SL, owned a copy of this with gray interior. Are the pinstripes painted on or tapes?

  • autocorsa (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@Gr8barn thank you! The convertible is manual function, so not much to show in a video other than condition (shown in the walk thru video). All folds and stows away nice and smoothly, with the clamshell locking down without issue. The power windows function as they should and without issue, as do the headlights and tail lights. The air conditioning blows cold, but not ice cold. It’s not a hot day here in CT. We just tested it, and think it’s best to say it could use a quick recharge. Thanks.

  • Gr8barn (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Very nice car. Do you have a video of the convertible roof and of the power windows? How is the air conditioning?
