In 2004, Porsche marked four decades of the 911 sports car by unveiling a special edition known as the 40th Anniversary Edition 996 Carrera Coupe. Limited to a total of 1963 units, this example is designated #0769. It boasts a GT Silver Metallic exterior over Natural Leather upholstery along with a Turbo front fascia, a 6-speed manual transmission, limited-slip differential, Sport Suspension, the X51 Power Kit, Comfort Seats with Power Package, and additional exclusive trim details. Showing under 72k miles on the odometer, this sought-after 996 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

Finished in GT Silver Metallic, the 40th Anniversary 911 features unique styling elements such as the Turbo-derived front fascia, GT3-style flared rocker panels, polished exhaust tips, and 18” Carrera II lightweight wheels. It also bears a special “40 Jahre 911” emblem along the rear decklid. The seller reports minor clear coating damage around the wheel center caps. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The interior showcases Natural Grey leather upholstery with Comfort Seats featuring the Power Package. Exclusive to the 40th Anniversary Edition are aluminum-finished instrument dial rings, an Alcantara headliner, door sills adorned with 911 logos, and a console limitation plate indicating the car’s individual production number, #0769. Factory options include the Bose High-End Sound Package and a remote 6-disc CD changer. The seller notes a previous repair was performed to the driver's seat bolster and confirms all gauges and accessories are working properly.

The 996 40th Anniversary Edition features the Exclusive X51 Power Kit, elevating the 3.6-liter flat-six engine's output to 345 HP, a 25 HP increase from the standard 996 Carrera. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission, resulting in a 0-60 time of approximately 4.5 seconds. The X51 Power Kit comprises a valvetrain upgrade, cast-aluminum intake manifolds with modified cross-sections, and a remapped engine tune. Standard features include Turbo radiators, a limited-slip differential, and Sport Suspension. The CARFAX report indicates a recent service performed by an authorized Porsche dealer within the last 300 miles, including a cylinder head replacement. Additionally, the seller reports recent upkeep comprised of an oil change, replacement of brakes (rotors, pads, and sensors), windshield wipers, hood struts, and front trunk actuator. The seller also adds that the spark plugs and coils will be replaced before delivery to the winning bidder.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

@Bill930P I’m assuming Range 1: 27298 ignitions and Range 2: 55 ignitions. Is this correct?

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

@Fellscreek - DME report reads as follows:

    Ignition 0: 27298
    Ignition 1: 55

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

    @gwistrup - not a problem.

@Bill930P /thanks. Did not know the 996 only had two ranges.

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

@Fellscreek - I'll try and get one later today, when the car is delivered to the shop for the plug and coil replacement. Keep in mind the the over-rev report are not very useful on the 996, ad it only has two ranges (unlike later cars that have 6 ranges).

  • Fellscreek (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

If you have a DME report, please provide.

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

In regards to the paint bubbling on the rear of the roof rail cover. It is very minor. The rail is made of plastic, so it is definitely not rust. Probably just environmental. It snaps right out, so it does not require removing any rubber. I've done it many times before. Takes about a minute. This will be an inexpensive repair if new owner deems it necessary.

  • marcromano 1 month, 1 weekago

....And regardless of the mileage, I would absolutely have the IMS replaced. You just never know and Porsche isn't providing new crate engines for free any longer. I would never be able to fully relax while driving it. Spend $2500 to replace the IMS or potentially $30,000 + for a new engine. Not being dramatic here, just rational. Over and out.

  • marcromano 1 month, 1 weekago

I have #0763. It's a great 911 for more reasons than I have time right now to list.

I would say, that what's most important, is the way it was treated by its owners over its 71k mile history. Look hard at that. The paint bubbling on the rear window strip is a ?? Definitely will have to be repaired and it requires removing the weatherstripping on the rear window to see how deep the issue is. Need to factor in the cost of that repair. I would speak with a very high-quality shop and get an estimate range based on the photo and worst-case scenario. Might not be too expensive. Having said all that, I can say from experience, that it's a wonderful 911.

@Fellscreek @Fellscreek- the paint is bubbling. Not sure what's going on there, but it's isolated to that one spot.

  • Fellscreek (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Can you describe the imperfections on the roof rack strip where it meets the rear window on pic 47? Looks like something is happening under the paint.

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

    @Woodrm64 @Woodrm64- correct

  • Woodrm64 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

OK, thanks. But the new plugs and coils will be put on when you get back. Great!

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Woodrm64 - Thanks. I don't have any other info on past maintenance other then what's on CaFax, and the items I've done (see prior comment, and description). There are no oil leaks.

  • Woodrm64 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

This is a good looking 996. So original IMS. Any sign of plastic or metal shavings in the oil or filter? Does the car have any leaks? How about the other 996 maintenance items? Tranny mount, injectors, coolant tank. Thank you.

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Fellscreek - the clicking noise is from the radio. Has nothing to do with the engine.

  • Fellscreek (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

The ticking noise did not present during cold start video. Interesting!!

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Desertf0x9 - all for the maintenance at the dealer was prior to my ownership, so I don't have any more info. When I bought the car, it was in good working order. I did a full inspection, and addressed the few items I found. The front trunk lid struts were weak, the actuator was starting to fail (it would take two clicks sometimes to open), and the front brake pads were less then 20%. I replaced all those items. For good measure, I also replaced the rear pads and rotors, wiper blades, and did an oil change. I also ordered new plugs and coils to give it a full service. Those didn't arrive in time for me to have them changed before I left town. However, they will be done as soon as I get back on Monday.

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Spaceb0y - that ticking is coming from the radio. I think it was loading the nav disk.

  • 1969911Ss (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

I also am concerned about the ticking noise.

  • Desertf0x9 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

The maintenance records are very vague. What did they identify as the cause of the oil leak? Any records of these items being replaced or addressed? rms? Clutch? Water pump?

  • Spaceb0y (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Do you know what the ticking noise is at the start of the driving video? Is the noise coming from the car?

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@dostres - I can help arrange shipping. Message me with your zip code using the "contact seller" tab. I'll message you back with a quote.

  • dostres (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

I'm a new member/registered bidder. Curious about the shipping process. Believe it's arranged with the seller. How does that work and how to find out the cost (to NYC)? Thanks.

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@SALUKI78 - there is no record of the IMS being replaced. The wheels are oem.

  • SALUKI78 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Has the IMS bearing been replaced, or not? Are the wheels chrome-plated aftermarket, or are they OEM?
    Thanks

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Fellscreek - I'm not sure what the IMS situation is. There is no record of it being changed.

  • Rhubbert (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Obviously a well appointed and well maintained vehicle, I am very interested!

  • Fellscreek (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Very nice example for 71K miles. Any comments on the IMS situation? Replaced?

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Uwspearhunter - I dont see any significant difference. It looks in person as it does in the pictures.

  • Uwspearhunter 1 month, 2 weeksago

Seller can you please confirm if the stitching on the drivers seat differs from the passenger side? The post states there was a repair on the drivers side seat bolster and the stitching appears deviated from the passenger side. Thank you.

  • Bill930P (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@PBradz - that entry was a mistake. There was no cylinder head replacement. I called the dealer and got insight. The car was taken in for an oil leak. They wrote it up as needing a new head. It was misdiagnosed. The leak was fixed. The head was not, nor needed, replacement.

  • PBradz (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

    Gorgeous car! 🤩
What’s the story on the cylinder head replacement? I don’t recall if there was additional work done on the heads for the X51 package, but I do assume that the X51 cams were moved to the new heads. GLWTA.

Hi everyone. Welcome to the auction for this beautiful 40AE. Winning bidder will be thrilled. These cars are amazing! I have two, but keeping one for myself. I'd love to keep both, but it doesn't make sense. So, this one is being offered here. This car car is fully serviced, and ready to go. Bid with confidence.

I'm currently in Germany for a few days, but will be online. Keep in mind that there is a time difference , so apologies in advance for any delayed responses.
