The 1931 Packard 833 Standard Eight 461 Phaeton boasts an open-top, four-door design coupled with a robust inline-eight engine. At the time, Packard showcased advanced engineering and Art Deco-inspired styling. Despite the challenges of the Great Depression, Packard's dedication to quality and prestige ensured the appeal of their vehicles. Notably, Packard ads of the time highlighted innovative features like rubber-mounted engines, Ride Control, and automatic chassis lubrication. This example comes finished in dual-tone tan and black over a brown upholstered cabin. A coveted collector’s item, this 461 Phaeton is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia.

This Packard boasts an open-top, four-door configuration and bears body number 461, denoting its identity as a Standard Eight Phaeton. Reported to have been refinished in its factory-specified color in 2005, this example comes finished in light tan with black accents and chrome detailing. It features a tan retractable soft top, a prominent front radiator grille, round headlamps, and a rear-mounted trunk. The car rides on brown-finished wheels with whitewall tires, complete with side-mounted spares protected by body-colored covers. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The interior accommodates four occupants on brown leather-upholstered benches, divided by a partition supporting a secondary windshield. The second row also features a foldable tray and floor-mounted footrest for added comfort. Additional features comprise matching, brown-upholstered door panels, wood trim accents, and tan carpeting throughout.

The Standard Eight is powered by a 5.3-liter 320 inline-eight engine with a Detroit 51 carburetor generating as much as 100 HP. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed manual transmission. Performance features include rubber engine mounts, Ride Control (a system of dash-adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers), and automatic chassis lubrication.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for exploring this magnificent and imposing automobile, conceived, and crafted during the years of extreme pre-WW2 opulence when the sky was the limit. This car belonged to a beloved ENT doctor who practiced in Alexandria, Virginia, just south of Washington. It was the apple of his eye, and he took great care of it. Now, as a 90-year-old widow, she no longer drives the car, so the time has come to find a new custodian who will include it in their eclectic collection. Thank you for viewing. Happy Bidding.”

Yes, again this is a very nice driver quality 1931 Packard. I was a best friend of Dr. Gagnon and the car was in my garage from the day he purchased it until June 19, 2023.

I do not believe the agent is being completely up front representing this car.I drove this car to its resting place on June 19, 2023. The car has not been touched since. In fact, the seller has not been able to start the Packard. This is a very nice driver quality vehicle that has been in my garage ( care taker ) for many years. Doctor Gagnon was a wonderful man and had a nice collection of automobiles.
