This 1946 Triumph Standard Special was built on an early Standard Triumph tubular frame with an exposed aluminum body, powered by a modified Triumph TR2/TR3 engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The body was replaced with a shaped aluminum tub featuring open wheels at all four corners in vintage race car style. It had been sitting for many years in England before relocating to Canada in 2004. The chassis is said to bear approximately 83k miles on the odometer, and the rebuilt engine is reported to have a runtime of around 15 hours. The seller reports the brakes have been rebuilt, specialty steering components have been installed, new tires and tubes have been mounted, and a rare exhaust cut-out system has been fitted. This very unique right-hand drive Triumph Standard Special is now being offered at auction by its seller out of Ontario, Canada.

The original body was stripped down and replaced with formed aluminum bodywork over the original Standard Triumph tubular frame. Equipment includes a chrome front grille with vertical slats, Standard badging, headlamps, a hood cut-out for the carburetors, an external handbrake handle on the driver’s side, an aluminum fuel cap, a rear bumper with tail lights, and a cut-out exhaust system with triple tips. The seller reports new tires and tubes have been mounted on steel wheels with full-faced aluminum hubcaps.

The interior features tweed side panels and a bench seat upholstered in red leather along with a matching dashboard and rear bulkhead. The dash features Jaeger instrumentation for coolant temperature and oil pressure with a 120-MPH speedometer and 6k-RPM tachometer, a Cemco amp meter, a Weston ohm meter, and a Stromberg motoscope vacameter. The driver is supplied with a 4-spoke steering wheel, a floor-mounted shifter, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror.

This Triumph Special is powered by a rebuilt and performance-tuned TR2/TR3 inline four-cylinder engine equipped with dual carburetors. The rear wheels are driven by a 4-speed manual transaxle. The seller reports that the brakes have been rebuilt including new brake lines, wheel cylinders, rear shoes, and a new master cylinder. The steering components were sourced from Triumph specialists, and a rare driver-operated exhaust cut-out system is installed.

This Triumph is offered with a bill of sale and registration.

Bring your Aviator goggles for sure. I can clearly picture this Race car next to your Pimento Red 1972 TR6.

Yes, the owner of this vehicle and the Rolls must have been one interesting character and lover of all things early British. Bring your goggles. Talk about a walk back in time. Would be a nice match sitting next to my Pimento Red 1972 TR6 -- just fresh from an engine rebuild as well.
