Built by Fisker and Nielsen of Copenhagen, the Nimbus Type C is a rare Danish motorcycle with an illustrious history. It became the best-selling motorcycle in Denmark after it was delivered to the first customer in 1934 and was purchased in large numbers by the Danish Post Office, Army, and Police at the dawn of WWII. The Nimbus was produced throughout the war and was continually refined during the post-war years until production ceased in 1959. It has since become one of the rarest and most iconic vintage motorcycles and is often referred to by its nickname “Bumblebee” which was earned by the distinctive humming sound of its inline four-cylinder engine. This 1954 example is said to have spent time on the Isle of Man before being imported to the U.S. some years ago where it was ridden in California. This historic motorcycle is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Oklahoma.

The Type C uses a spring steel cradle frame with a rigid rear end and was the first production motorcycle to feature tubular telescopic forks. This 1954 example is decorated with a blue frame, headlamp bucket, handlebars, and fairings contrasted by pinstripes, a silver-painted fuel tank, and silver wire-spoke wheels. The seller indicates the bike was refinished overseas prior to importation. Details include a sprung black leather driver’s seat, a removable rear passenger seat, front and rear foot pegs, a flat chrome exhaust tip, drum brakes, exposed engine valve springs, and Nimbus logos on the fuel tank. The seller notes the bike shows some chips and imperfections as depicted in the photo gallery.

This Type C is equipped with an air-cooled 746cc 4-stroke SOHC inline-four engine with a single-barrel carburetor and 6V coil ignition. It offers an output of 22 HP which is sent to the rear wheels through a 3-speed manual transmission with a driveshaft and bevel gears. The seller notes the valves and carburetor have been tuned and all electrical features and accessories work properly apart from the speedometer.

This motorcycle is offered with a clean California title.

The seller would like you to know:OK guys I am letting my very cool and unique 1954 Flying Nimbus go to a good home. These bikes have a very unique build style using stamped parts and riveted together flat strap steel constructed frames, with a very quirky cool exposed tappet in-line 746cc 4cyl and 3-speed setup to make up a very classic mechanical look. For the many who never heard of the Nimbus, and let alone have ridden one, they are super light and friendly riders. The inline 4cyl sounds like an old military Jeep running down the road, and they are very smooth-running bikes, which makes them extremely nice in-town riders. For anyone who wants an entry-level vintage motorcycle that stands out at your local motorcycle gatherings, this is definitely the motorcycle for you, because it definitely attracts crowds of enthusiasts around it at any gathering or gas station.”

Just wanted to extend this invitation from the Numbus Enthusiast Group.

“Make sure the next owner knows that he or she can get 6 free issues of the club magazine Nimbus Tidende (PDF format, translated to English). Sincerely, the editor....”.

These motorcycles have a lot of group support, and it also comes with some operational information and tune up sheets for riding and maintenance, which shows many clever features like the Left Handle Bar Twist Grip four positioning headlong control.

The bike also comes with its 7/21/18 “Department of Homeland Security” import doc from the Isle of Man after its vacation purchase and use to get around for the IOM TT race event.
