The Alfa Romeo 1900C Super Sprint represented a high-performance iteration within the 1900 model lineup, distinguished by its upgraded engine, steel chassis, independent front suspension, and sporty bodywork by Touring. This 1955 model, originally a coupe, is said to have been converted to a cabriolet in Italy during the 1970s. It features a 1,975cc inline-four engine with a light alloy head, a 5-speed manual transmission, and twin carburetors. Finished in green over tan upholstery, this example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Sint-Truiden, Belgium.

Introduced in 1954, the second series Tipo 3, marked Alfa Romeo’s venture into unitary construction with the 1950 model, and chassis variations were made available to independent coachbuilders. Constructed on the short-wheelbase Corto platform, the Touring-bodied Sprint and Super Sprint coupes feature alloy panels over a steel spaceframe. Finished in green, this example underwent a conversion to a cabriolet by an independent Italian coachbuilder and is equipped with a black soft top, Carello headlights, grille-mounted driving lights, bright “hockey stick” rocker panel accents, a single exhaust outlet, and Borrani-style wheels dressed in older tires. Signs of patina are noted and detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin offers seating for two adorned in Camel Brown leather with matching door panels and tan carpeting. A contrasting black-finished dashboard houses Benzina and Veglia instrumentation along with a host of switch controls. The equipment also includes a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, door-mounted storage pockets, and a floor-mounted gear change. The door panels are said to require attention.

The 1,975cc Tipo 1308 DOHC inline-four boasts an 8:1 compression ratio and twin carburetors, delivering a factory-rated output of 115 HP. The chassis features a double-wishbone front suspension, coil springs both front and rear, telescopic shocks, and a solid rear axle. The seller states the engine starts and runs, with the gearbox matching the engine. Restoration is recommended for the engine, brakes, suspension, and fittings, along with the installation of fresh fluids.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This car was originally a 1900 C Super Sprint Zagato and its original body has been modified to a Cabriolet. This transformation was not done by Zagato but by a coachbuilder in Italy. It seems it was done in the late ‘70s. This work was done really professionally and the hood fits well open and closed. For me work that needs to be done is all mechanically cosmetic and changing the brakes, oils, suspensions, tires, fittings… This car hasn’t driven since 2014.”
