Up for auction is this 1956 Jaguar D-Type Short Nose Alloy re-creation offered from the esteemed Wilson Collection of South Florida.  Using time-honored coachbuilding techniques and old-world craftsmanship, this D-Type was created by the Tempero Coach & Motor Company of New Zealand, a respected world-class manufacturer of re-creation vintage sports cars. This specially sanctioned example is said to have been ordered in the early 1990s by Fine Sports Cars under the direction of then-chief engineer, Ashton Marshall. It is confirmed by Rod Tempero to be either the first or second of a total 32 built between 1990 and 1995. Acquired by the seller in 2014, kept in a temperature-controlled enviroment and said to have been driven just a handful of times, this D-Type re-creation is now being offered for auction out of Florida.

Finished in Yellow over contrasting black, this D-Type pays homage to the livery of the Equipe Nationale Belge team that finished 4th overall at the 1957 running of the 24hrs of Le Mans. Tempero’s re-creation utilizes a factory-style chassis wrapped with aluminum body panels hand-formed over a wooden buck.  Exterior features include a driver-side windshield, an aerodynamic headrest fairing, leather bonnet straps and a side-exit exhaust system. A removable side panel covers the passenger compartment of a divided cockpit to provide better aerodynamics and reduced drag at high speed. Blank roundels at the front, passenger side, fairing, and rear of the car offer a clean space to assign a racing number of the owner’s choosing. 15” Dunlop-style wheels feature three-eared knock-offs and come dressed in 185VR15 Blockley radial tires. A full-sized spare is strapped into a special compartment at the back of the vehicle.

The divided right-hand-drive cockpit features black leather seats and exposed aluminum flooring and door panels. A wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation which includes an 8k-RPM tachometer, a 180 MPH speedometer, temperature, and oil pressure gauges. The 5-digit odometer currently reads 1,925 miles.

The 4.2L Jaguar XK inline-six engine features dual overhead camshafts and three 45 DCOE Weber Carburetors. The engine is paired to a 4-speed manual transmission with override. The front suspension incorporates double wishbones and coilover dampers, the rear includes multi-link quad coilovers with inboard rotors and Spax struts. Service in 2019 is said to have included a new fuel pump, the installation of a rev-counter generator, and a rebuild of the speedometer. Receipts and a summary of expenses will be included with the sale. It should be noted that this D-Type is titled as a model year 1964 using body number 309030.

A limited-production race car, today, the D-Type is one of the most desirable models amongst Jaguar enthusiasts and historic racers alike. A faithful high-quality re-creation of one of the most iconic cars to compete at Le Mans, this Tempero D-Type is just waiting to be driven and enjoyed.

@WilsonCollection Do you know what transmission is in this car? I'm assuming it is street legal. I'm in California.
When was it last run for any amount of distance?

I believe that it is quite unusual to see the engine size, cylinder spec. Carb model spec and transaxle info but no mention of the HP for this particular engine? Maybe its just me that doesn't know the standard HP rating for a 4.2L inline 6 Jag engine then please forgive me. I imagine due to the rarity of this re-creation 1 of 32 it will exceed my limits but I will enjoy watching this one go to its new owner. What I would give for an hour on a closed track with it! GLWTA!
