Fiberfab, founded in 1964, initially focused on producing automotive accessories and body parts before expanding into the production of kit cars and fully assembled automobiles. Over time, they emerged as one of the enduring names in the kit car manufacturing industry. This Speedster replica is titled as a 1991 Porsche in the state of Florida and derives power from a 2,164-cc engine with Engel cams, CB Performance 044 cylinder heads, dual Weber 40mm carburetors, and more. Built during the early 2000s and finished in red over tan upholstery, this example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania.

Placed upon a Metalcraft custom tubular frame, the fiberglass bodywork comes finished in red with a black retractable soft top. Details include chrome trim, dual rearview mirrors, Porsche Speedster badging, polished quad exhaust outlets, and 15” slotted chrome wheels with Porsche-crested hubcaps. Slight signs of age are noted, and additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin presents tan upholstery with matching carpets, a painted dashboard, and tan floor mats. Equipment includes a Nardi three-spoke steering wheel, VDO analog instrumentation, and a Blaupunkt stereo. Additionally, the cabin has been customized to fit taller occupants of up to 6’. The seller notes slight wear on the driver’s seat.

Power is derived from an air-cooled 1971 VW flat-four engine upgraded to 2,164cc paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes oversized cylinders, Engel cams, CB Performance 044 cylinder heads, dual Weber 40mm carburetors, a Jacobs ignition system, and a 12v alternator. The transmission has been modified with a custom gear ratio and the chassis includes front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, and an independent wishbone suspension.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This is a well-built replica, body by Fiberfab Intl, built in the early 2000s. The car has very tasteful mods to bump up the hp and an independent wishbone suspension. With the tall man's conversion, a 6ft tall man can fit comfortably in the car.”

@Havenhearth - i really think you maybe too tall at 6ft 6 for this car. especially with the top on. i have no issue storing free of charge until the weather turns but it would be in your best interest to sit in the seat to make sure you will be comfortable.

  • Havenhearth (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

I have a Boxster and the cockpit is tight for me at 6’6”. I love older cars and am happy with this being a replica. When I drive the Boxster for more than an hour my back hurts. Do you know how comfortable these seats might be for a tall driver.

Thanks for your tone in the responses you have sent: you seem able to 'keep your cool’ when others would have been less even tempered.

And could you store this car for until the salt is off the roads? I would Love to collect it in person and drive it home.

    Thank you

@Itwasuited - thank you and hopefully you dont think i was slinging hate either. sometimes vlogs and short texts dont convey the tone. best of luck

  • Itwasuited 2 months, 3 weeksago

I apologize if it seemed like I was throwing hate. I'm really not. I see your website has many nice cars for sale, I also notice you don't have this car on your site. I wish you well and I will still bid accordingly.
    Cheers

@Itwasuited - i would also refer you to the fact that this car is a Replica car with tasteful mods and the end user who buys this car is getting a reliable and tastefully modified Replica to enjoy driving around. No one is stating this is 0-60mph in 2.0sec or a track modification that can run 200mph nor are they paying a an outrageous price.

  • Proautoex (seller) 2 months, 3 weeksago

@Itwasuited - and i have owned an exotic car dealership for 27 years and have bought and sold multiple 1000s of cars throughout the years. IF you are trying to buy a rolex, would you be looking in the replica section? The car is represented as a nicely modified and strong running replica. its not represented as rolex and i have relayed the information that was given to me. I would also argue, you are dead wrong on your opinion on the modifications but thanks for your input

    Bugginmiami makes a great point.
I have built 100s of performance type 1 motors and been around 1000s of them. This motor doesn't look and definitely doesn't sound like a motor with performance internals.
Owner claims are only second hand and with no documentation. Would you buy a Rolex from someone that says "the guy i got it from said it's real".
All I'm saying is bid accordingly.

Is there receipts/documentation of the engine build?

  • bugginmiami (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

@LJB790 That's part of the irs rear suspension from the original beetle tunnel/pan. I believe its a can be unbolted deal, easy to find/replace. What else is there, who knows.

Can you please identify the rusted out part in the upper right of picture #62. Thanks

Some of your information on the motor is way off. I'd unfortunately edit the ad to say you don't know much more about the motor other than it appears to be a stock vw dual port motor with Kadron carburetors and a 12 volt generator.

dc911guy- it doesn't need a valve adjustment and there is no rust on frame. fiber is clean throughout. its a strong driving car that is well built

  • DC911guy (registered bidder) 2 months, 4 weeksago

Needs some TLC and sounds like a valve adjustment?

Nice base car looks like rust on the frame is surface only

1- Car was built in the early 2000s . It is fiber Intl body that has a custom tubular frame built by Metal craft. It has the tall man’s modified pans so a 6ft person can easily fit with top up in car. the seat can be repositioned to accommodate a taller person. It is a fiberglass body with flared wheel openings. The engine is from a 71 vw punched out to 2164 cc Oversized cylinders with an engel street cam CB performance 044 cylinder heads and dual weber 40mm carb, Jacobs ignition and a 12volt alternator The transmission is beefed up and has custom gear ratio. It has been beefed up. It also has equal length headers that join into a collector. This gives it a raspy sound and a nice performance bump.
2- The car was purchased from the 2nd owner last year and has all been gone thru recently. It runs and drives great especially with front discs and drums in the rear. The suspension is an independent wish bone suspension( not sure from what)
3- The overall condition is extremely nice, the ruby red paint is a 8 out of 10 showing just a little bit of wear consistent with its age and consistent for a fiberglass body.
