This 1956 BMW Isetta 250 is a rare bubble window model finished in Signal Red and White over a tan vinyl and grey cloth interior. It comes equipped with optional “Z” mold trim, a locking gear shifter, a visor thermometer, a rear parcel rack, a folding black canvas roof, 10” steel wheels, and a 245cc single-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. The car is said to have spent more than four decades in Germany and was imported to the U.S. under prior ownership. Recently serviced and accompanied by documentation dating back to the 1950s, this Isetta is now being offered for auction out of California.

This Isetta features coveted bubble window specification and a two-tone Signal Red and White finish separated by optional “Z” moldings. Other equipment includes a folding black canvas roof, pop-out vent windows, a rear parcel rack, mud flaps, an antenna, a chrome driver’s side mirror, and 10” steel wheels mounted with new tires. The car is said to have been refinished in 2015 and the seller notes the floor pans are rust-free. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The front-opening door reveals a tan vinyl interior with a grey cloth-trimmed bench seat, a rubber floor liner, and a wicker rear parcel shelf. Other accessories include a white-three-spoke steering wheel, a door pocket, a reverse-sweep speedometer, a choke lever, a rearview mirror, a visor thermometer, and a rare locking gear shifter. A spare wheel is mounted beneath the seat cushion.

An air-cooled 245cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine provides up to 12 HP to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle. Service completed under prior ownership in 2023 included valve adjustments, a rebuilt carburetor, a new fuel tank, fuel lines, spark plug, brake master cylinder, sending unit, battery, air filter, gearbox fluid, brake fluid, and engine oil.

This sale will include a collection of documentation, a spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Very rare 1956 “Bubble Window” Isetta. This Euro 250 Isetta with Z moldings and other rare factory options was imported from Germany.  Bubble window Isettas are highly coveted and are much rarer than the “Sliding Window” Isettas having only been made from 1955 to 1957. The original documentation on this Isetta spans over 6 decades back to the 1950’s. It starts right up and drives great.”

@mayart yes, the car has a clean California Title and current registration good until 2025. I recently acquired the car through a trade. I don’t know where any restoration was done but the $5,000 in recent mechanical work was done in Southern California. Less than 70 miles ago

@seller does this car have a clean California title and registration? How long have you owned it? Was the restoration done in Germany or in the US during your ownership?

@TZombek this was a very early Isetta import. It’s is believed that it was required at that time due to the fact that the engine cover is solid with no Vents.

It looks like VW Beetle vents have been added or were they origional?
