Up for auction is this custom built 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster replica by JPS Classics. Consisting of hand-laid reinforced fiberglass bodywork over a tubular steel chassis, this JPS Classic Speedster is presented in the timeless combination of Silver Metallic over Red leather. Equipped with an air cooled 2332cc flat-four engine, this Speedster was completed in 2018 with just over 500 miles driven since. It is now being offered by its seller in New York in excellent turn-key driving condition.
The Silver Metallic finish on this Speedster is shown to be in very nice condition, although some signs of wear can be seen on the paint near the edge of the soft top (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). Optional features include headlight grilles, leather front hood straps, chrome side moldings, side deco strips, bumper deco strips, European rear bumper guards, front driving lights, a rear luggage rack and twin exhaust tips. Reproduction chrome ventilated wheels are equipped which feature optional “Super Nipple” hubcaps and Westlake radial tires.
The cabin of is upholstered in Red leather and vintage-style Grey square weave carpeting. 356-style trim and instrument gauges preserve the classic look while hidden a Bluetooth radio system with Blaupunkt speakers offers modern sound quality. A canvas soft top boot is also included with the sale along with pop-out side windows and a tonneau cover.
Power comes from a custom 2332cc flat-four engine based off a VW Type 1 platform. This air-cooled power plant includes a factory new VW case, a new stroker crankshaft, VW rods, new Mahle pistons and barrels, new heads, 110 cam, a lightened flywheel, full-flow oil system, external oil filter, 36HP Doghouse and dual carburetors. Approximately 175 HP is delivered to the rear wheels through a 4-speed VW Type 1 swing axle transmission. Other features include 4-wheel disc brakes and a front sway bar. This Speedster is reported to be in excellent running order with all routine maintenance up to date, a startup and driving video is provided below.
