Up for auction is this 1958 Porsche 356 A Speedster replica built by Intermeccanica International.  Finished in Ivory over a custom Maroon and black leatherette interior, this Speedster is said to be part of Intermeccanica’s initial series of builds which was completed in their Santa Ana facility in September of 1979.  Showcasing some genuine Porsche 356 components as well as an upgraded 1600cc VW Super Beetle engine, this Speedster is now being offered by its current owner of over 10 years in Texas with approximately 80k miles showing on the odometer.

The Ivory exterior finish is noted to be in good condition with some typical signs of wear and patina (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  This 356 is built upon the chassis of a Volkswagen with replica fiberglass Speedster body paneling.  Some noteworthy details include chrome brightwork, badges, headlight grills, updated chrome wheels and a “Reutter” coachwork badge which helps to make this example look as authentic as possible.

Inside, the custom Maroon and black vinyl interior has been recently refurbished with the re-covering of the seats, doors cards and dashboard.  Other features include a Nardi wooden steering wheel, Porsche instrument gauges, new Coco floormats and a retro-style radio with an RCA part for connectivity to your mobil device or tablet playlists.  All gauges, lights and accessories are stated to be fully functional.

Power comes from a 1977 1600cc 4-cylinder Volkswagen Super Beetle engine which features upgraded Weber carburetors as well as an upgraded exhaust system.  A 4-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels and the seller notes that the engine and transmission operate strong and smooth with nimble handling and quick acceleration.  A new master cylinder has been installed along with new brakes.  This Speedster is said to have always been properly maintained and tuned annually with many service records available for reference.

The sale of this Speedster will include a set of 2 keys, books, a full zip-up tonneau and car cover, service records and a collection of spare parts.  If you have always admired the iconic Porsche 356 Speedster, this outstanding Intermeccanica replica offers an unbeatable value.

@jethro_gooch the car is titled as a 1979 assembled vehicle - convertible. It doesn’t actually leak oil. The underside of the engine and transmission was painted black at some point. There is some old oil and probably spots that have 41 years of road gunk under there, but the black paint is now starting to come off so it looks a little funny.

What is the car titled as? Appears to have a lot of oil on bottom of engine, do you know where the oil leaks are coming from?

@Sxmyachtshop . Mike. There are a few spots on the door hinges. They get wet when that car is washed, as i haven’t driven it in the rain since i got caught in a storm after a 4th of July parade in 2007. The underside, frame, and pan are in very good condition. I tried to get a pic from under the car this weekend that was uploaded with the video. I think it’s pic #76. I can try and get another few pics this evening, that i might be able to get uploaded.

  • Sxmyachtshop (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@Sxmyachtshop seems to be only passenger side on the door hinges

  • Sxmyachtshop (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Quick question, I notice the door hinges show considerable rust, how is the frame , any under carriage photo's available ?
    Cheers
    Mike

@Aiello11 This is a great car to drive. Handles great around town, as well as keeps up with the 75mph - 80mph highway speed limits we have here in Texas. There will be quick video uploaded to the listing shortly.

  • Aiello11 (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

I’m in love with the fact that it was well driven. Lots of respect. Will be watching
