1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Roadster

Finished in Strawberry Metallic (DB543) over a white leather interior, this striking 1960 Mercedes-Benz W121 190SL has undergone a comprehensive multi-year restoration by marque specialist Bruce Adams. This SL is a two-time Best in Show winner at the 190SL Group Concours as well as first prize recipient at the 2007 AACA Nationals. The original 1.9-liter engine was rebuilt in 2006, and the car is now being offered for auction accompanied by a vast collection of supporting documentation as well as tools, manuals, and period accessories.

The 190SL shares styling cues with the iconic 300SL including its front grille, bumper design, and decorative fender flares. This example is presented in Strawberry Metallic (DB543) with a retractable canvas soft top in red. It came factory finished in White Grey and was later stripped to bare metal to be refinished in the current shade in 2002. Accessories include a driver’s side mirror, rear stone guards, a Hirschmann “red tip” antenna, and polished 13″ steel wheels with body-colored hubcaps and whitewall tires.

The cabin has been professionally reupholstered in white leather with a painted dashboard and charcoal square weave carpeting. Equipment includes a center-facing rear “kinder seat”, Coco floor mars, lap belts, a heater, a Kienzle/VDO analog clock, and a custom hidden sound system.

Power comes from a type M121 BII 1.9-liter SOHC inline-four carbureted engine that drives the rear wheels by way of a synchronized 4-speed manual gearbox. The numbers matching engine was rebuilt in 2007 by 190 SL Services of Aberdeen, North Carolina, and a replacement 4-speed manual transmission was installed in 1983 by Berrier and Beck Mercedes-Benz of Charlotte, North Carolina. Three binders full of restoration and service records will accompany the sale detailing the custodianship of three prior owners since 1980.

This sale will include a collection of concours awards, extensive documentation, factory manuals, tools, parts catalogs, a jack, spare tire, and a clean title.

@Jimbo1907 Hi there, thank you for your kind words. Bruce Adams was indeed the foremost authority when it came to 190SLs.
Strawberry Metallic (DB543) is a distinct and separate color from 571 Red Metallic. I would describe it as quite a bit more "pink" than Red. Its a stunning color and does present differently in bright or dim lighting.

Terrific car, and very well presented here. Bruce Adams is THE 190SL guy.

Is this the same color as 571 red metallic? Because it resembles it.
