Produced in Coventry, England, from 1959 to 1967, the Jaguar Mk II is a midsized luxury sports saloon renowned for its comfortable interior, elegant design, and powerful XK6 inline-six engine. This 1961 example was acquired by the current owner in 2007 and is said to have undergone a complete restoration by Jaguar South of South Carolina and Performance & Vintage Classicos INC. in the Dominican Republic between 2007 and 2014. It was finished in a custom blue paint color and equipped with an aftermarket air conditioning system for driver comfort. Having been part of the Wilson Collection in Florida ever since, this classic Jaguar is now being offered for auction.

An evolution of the Jaguar Mark I, the Mk II featured a redesigned upper body with improved visibility including slimmer front pillars, a wider windscreen, and larger chrome-framed side windows. It also featured a reshaped rear window, a new radiator grille design, and repositioned lighting. This example was completely refinished in a custom shade of metallic blue during its restoration. The car is adorned with chrome bumpers and trim, Lucas Le Mans headlamps, Lucas Fogranger fog lamps, a polished driver’s side mirror, dual polished exhaust tips, a louvered bonnet, and a traditional Jaguar hood ornament. It rides on 15” wire knockoff wheels dressed in Vredestein Sprint Classic tires from 2019. The seller notes the tires show about 90% tread remaining and a few small bubbles and imperfections are present in the paint. Detailed images are provided in the galley.

The cabin has been reupholstered in red leather with matching carpets and features restored burled wood trim on the dashboard, pillars, and door toppers. Accessories include red and black Coco floormats, black lap belts with polished Jaguar buckles, a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, a locking glovebox, rear picnic tables, diamond-pattern treadplates, a newer Jaguar AM/FM CD stereo, an aftermarket air conditioning system, and a suite of Smiths analog gauges.

Power comes from a 3.8-liter XK6 inline 6-cylinder DOHC engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox that drives the rear wheels. The Mk II came standard with four-wheel disc brakes and the 3.8-liter model also included a factory limited-slip differential. The car is said to have been mechanically sorted during the restoration and has been professionally maintained as part of a private collection ever since.

This sale will include a toolkit, extensive documentation, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Overall the fit and finish present well, and this is a wonderful cruiser. The restoration work that went into this Jag outweighs the value of the car by a long shot.”

I've added a photo of the engine stampings. An interested party informed me the engine stampings I uploaded were actually shots of the head. The head matches the block. So I think it's fair to say this is a numbers matching car.

@Unbridled2020 I apologize for the confusion. As to the running temperature of the motor, I don't have an exact temperature, however I know it runs warmer with the condenser in front of the radiator. It seems to run fine on the road however on a hot day at long enough redlight I can imagine it getting too warm. I would warn bidders to be prepared to go through the cooling system and tailer it to the environment they live. Photos of paint flaws and engine stampings were uploaded a few days ago. You can find them at the end of the photos compiled in the listing. AC is working. I am working in the shocks now and they will be repaired before the car is sent to the winner. I don't believe there was any re dyeing taking place, as the whole interior was redone. It is likely what you are seeing is wear from use, remember the car restoration was finished 8 - 9 years ago. As I had mentioned before the light fixtures were a request of the owner. I would imagine the factory fixtures are readily available and easy to replace.

I hope this helps and if anyone has any last minute questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

"Engine running warmer than normal" Can you clarify? Temp? Does the AC blow cold? Arer you going to upload photos of bubbling and other paint flaws as promised? What trans is currently installed. Are you going to upload pics of the number stamping as promised ? Are you going to correct the worn rear shocks/springs as you mentioned? Door cards and areas of the seats appear to have been redyed. Can you confirm? Can you shed any more light on the strange fitting of the undersized headlights and oversized driving lights? Would appreciate a response in time for bidding. thx

Hello everyone. An interested party made note of the Coombs sticker on the rear window and was curious to know if they were involved in the build. I would just like to clarify the car was not handled by Coombs.

@tfk92C4 Gauges are working well. The engine is ok although I believe it runs a bit warmer than normal because of the condenser restricting airflow and refrigerant is R134a.

  • WilsonCollection (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

@tfk92C4 Yes… the shocks are worn in the rear. It’s causing the bouncing and the clunking noises. I am working towards having it resolved before sending the car to the future owner.

In the drive video about last 2 minutes there seems to be a lot of bouncing and clunking noises yet the car in front seems to have a very smooth road. The car in front is modern but these Jags are known to be smooth. Any idea as to what's going on?

  • tfk92C4 (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

Do all the gauges function properly? Is the A/C working and what refrigerant is being used? Does the engine overheat?
    Thanks

@PaulLittell Drive video and photos of the paint flaws should be posted any minute. As to the headlights and driving lights, these were just features requested by the owner. He enjoyed modifying his cars.

  • Unbridled2020 (registered bidder) 9 months, 3 weeksago

Can you confirm AC and all gauges function properly and that car runs cool ?

Lovely car. Could you please elaborate on the paint imperfections and bubbling you mentioned? Can't see them in photos. Was is the story behind the smaller headlights and the hanging driving lights?
Looking forward to the driving video.
