We are pleased to present this 1961 Mercedes-Benz W121 190SL finished in White over a black leather interior.  Originally offered as a more affordable alternative to the legendary 300SL, the 190SL shares its basic styling, engineering, independent suspension, and engine architecture with the iconic W198 Roadster and Gullwing models. Reported to be an original Southern California car, SL was recently acquired from a long-term previous owner who had purchased it in 1985.  Showcasing some of the most distinctive and beautiful styling of the era, this 190SL is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This 190SL comes finished in White with a retractable soft top in black and shares styling cues with the more exotic 300SL including its front grille, bumper design, and decorative fender flares. The body is believed to have been refinished during the early 1990s and the car has remained in the warm, dry climate of the Rancho Mirage area since 1985.  The finish is described as excellent driver quality with well-preserved brightwork and good body panel fit, detailed images are provided in the gallery.  This W121 rides on 15" wheels with body-colored hubcaps and Kenda Kinetica Radial tires dated from 2017.

The cabin is trimmed in black leather with matching carpets, a painted dashboard, a pair of bucket seats, and an ivory-colored steering wheel. Amenities include an analog clock, manual wind-up windows, analog VDO instrumentation, and a vintage Pioneer AM/FM radio.

Power comes from a Type M121 BII 1.9L SOHC inline-four carbureted engine based on the 300SL's straight-six. In factory trim, this engine was capable of producing up to 104 HP.  This example has been equipped with upgraded carburetors and the rear wheels are driven by way of a fully synchronized 4-speed manual gearbox.  Other mechanical features include four-wheel drum brakes and a fully independent suspension derived from the 300SL.  The car is said to have been kept up to date on routine maintenance and the seller reports service documentation is available dating back to 1985. Images of the undercarriage can be found in the gallery.

This sale will include a collection of service records and a clean title. This nicely presented 190SL is ready to be enjoyed by a new caretaker, do not let this opportunity pass you by.

@farFman I’ve never seen one with it as they are they aren’t very fast. These are cruisers I’ve owned 4 I’ve never even had my hard top ever on them. They have a 110hp when new. Hope that helps you out.
