Presented in Slate Grey over red leather, this custom 1961 Porsche 356B Coupe “Outlaw” was modified by the revered 356 specialist Jack Staggs of San Clemente, California. The replacement Porsche 912 engine was completely rebuilt and enlarged to a 1,904cc displacement along with a re-geared 4-speed transmission and upgrades to the brakes and suspension.  The appearance was customized with a GT-style hood, louvered decklid, fender mirrors, and American Racing wheels. Featured on the cover of the Fall 1998 Porsche 356 Club newsletter, this custom T5 also participated in the Silver State Classic, Targa California, Snowball Rally, and Dana Point 356 Concours where it won best in class.  Benefitting from extensive service within the last year, this expert-modified 356B is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Florida.

This Coupe comes finished in the historic Porsche color of Slate Grey and was fitted with a GT-style through-hood fuel filler, louvered rear decklid, shaved door handles, nerf bars, and Talbot GT Junior fender mirrors.  Other additions include a Pre-A style license plate light, Hella 128 fog lamps, and mesh headlight screens. The car rides on a set of 15” American Racing EMPI-style wheels dressed in Bridgestone tires, and the seller notes comprehensive professional detailing has been carried out within the last year.

The cabin is upholstered with red leather and features a custom removable roll bar, period Nardi steering wheel, and bucket seats with headrests and shoulder belts. An electric tachometer has been installed in place of the original cable unit and the car’s electrical system has been converted to 12-volt.

The replacement air-cooled Porsche 912 flat-four engine was rebuilt and upgraded to a 1,904cc displacement along with NueTek cams, a full-flow oil cooler, crankcase breather system, and a modified muffler.  The 4-speed manual gearbox was also modified with taller 2nd-4th gears.  Upgrades to the suspension include a Weltmeister front sway bar and Vic Skirmants camber regulator.  Stopping power comes from alloy drum brakes with Ferodo shoes. A major service completed within the last year totaled over $35k with recipts available.

This sale will include a clean title and a collection of documentation and service records.

Looks like a really nice outlaw! The only thing I would do is replace the front drum brakes with disc brake. The stock ones are fine with 60 HP. But with the 912 set up you need to stop fast.

Th. the rollbar does not impede the seat travel. Pcarmarket has copies of the $35,000 in receipts. I will ask them to post them.

  • sspbcski (registered bidder) 1 year, 12 monthsago

Does the roll bar impede the seat travel at all? I am 6' 4" with long legs and fit fine a in 356 as long as the seat goes all the way back. Thanks.

  • sspbcski (registered bidder) 1 year, 12 monthsago

  • phil_c (registered bidder) 1 year, 12 monthsago

    @JohnBlackyoldtimer - VINs weren’t introduced until the early 1980’s.
This will have a chassis #. Probably 6 digits.

  • JohnBlackyoldtimer (registered bidder) 1 year, 12 monthsago

Please also take a photo of the VIN on the front of the car.

  • Dorothy1 (seller) 1 year, 12 monthsago

@JohnBlackyoldtimer John, I'll try to find a lift to get some undercarriage pics. The VIN is 115128. There is no carfax for cars of this vintage

  • JohnBlackyoldtimer (registered bidder) 1 year, 12 monthsago

Please photos of the undercarriage, the VIN and the technical features. And the right Carfax. Thanks.

  • TyStav (registered bidder) 1 year, 12 monthsago

The Carfax looks to be for a 2021 Audi.
