Now available for auction is this highly collectible 1962 Porsche 356 B T6 Roadster presented in black over a tan leather interior.  Representing the final iteration of the 356 Roadster and one of only 249 examples ever built, this 1962 356 B 1600S features rare T6 “twin-grille” coachwork by D’Ieteren Frères.  With a bare metal restoration performed during the 1990’s and another cosmetic refurbishment carried out in the mid 2000’s, this 356 spent much of its life stored in a prominent collection before being acquired by the seller in March of 2020.  Having since undergone over $6k worth of mechanical refurbishment to bring the car up to excellent running order, this 356 is now being offered by its seller out of Iowa with approximately 71k miles shown on the odometer (TMU).

After a bare-metal restoration was performed during the 1990’s this 356 was treated to another cosmetic refurbishment during the early 2000’s which included the restoration of the brightwork as well as a full respray in black.  The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirms the original color of the car to be Oslo Blue, and the finish is said to be in very nice condition with some minor paint imperfections located on both doors (detailed images and paint meter readings are provided in the photo gallery).  This T6 Roadster features a twin-grille rear decklid and factory ventilated 15” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps which come dressed in healthy Michelin XZX tubeless radial tires.

Inside, the fully reupholstered tan leather interior is said to be in pristine condition.  Reclining seats were optioned from the factory and additional accessories include aftermarket headrests, chromed trim, locking door pockets and a height-adjustable rearview mirror.  The cabin is noted to have been originally appointed in grey, and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional with the horn replaced recently in 2020.

This 356 carries its original 75 HP Type 616/12 1600cc Super flat-four engine mated to a non-numbers matching 4-speed manual transmission which delivers power to the rear wheels.  Since the seller’s purchase in March of 2020 over $6k was spent on bringing the car up to excellent running order including the replacement of 2 wheel cylinders, new spark plugs, a new fuel line and a complete fluid flush along with the rebuild and tuning of both carburetors as well as a compression test which yielded satisfactory results. This 356 is noted to be in excellent running order.

The sale of this Roadster will include a set of 2 keys, records, the original jack and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

For any vintage Porsche collector, this rare and highly sought after T6 Roadster offers a very special opportunity.

@XpackPpo I kind of agree, but even if there were a “sellers premium” man hours are man hours when it comes to Corrective restoration work...Unless you are having the work done in one of the Eastern block countries. Frankly ,for me ,the joy in these cars comes from driving and working on them and not speculating in them. I don’t see this a steal at 280k or even 200k unless of course we are thinking like these trade like the NASDAQ...and we all know the NASDAQ only goes up in value. LOL

    Good morning PcarMarket members,

Thank you all for your comments and bids thus far. As we wrap this up in the next three hours I wanted to let you guys know I will be looking for your last minute questions and comments.

This Porsche presents extremely well, and is a great running example. As noted in the listing we spent roughly $6k bringing this car back to correct running order. Some of the work performed includes: two new wheel cylinders, a complete fluid flush and replaced with new, normal service, rebuilt both carburetors and tuned, new fuel line, and spark plugs. All parts used were OEM and correct for this vehicle.

Our technician has an extensive Porsche background, including working for the brand's service department for several years, as well as spending some time at RUF. We can assure you this car works as intended, and would be a wonderful investment!

Look forward to the end of the auction, thanks in advance for your comments and bids!

@Super90PJ I guess if Willhoit was selling this, there would be a premium of 20% which in this case would be over $50k. This is a rare find and rock solid blue chip collectible. The seller didn’t let it go at $240 on BaT and who can blame him. If the seller is reasonable and smart and let’s this go between that at $300k it’s a killer deal for all and yes $50k less than Most premium priced shops. Let’s see what happens in a few hours. GL to all

So the current thesis here is that we use the Willhoit cars as a bench mark. Buy something like this for 280k dump another 200 plus into it to rectify the issues and you too now have a 500k plus values car. I didn’t creat the internet like Al Gore but that is certainly fuzzy math to me.

@Altongray4 yeh -- I don't know what to say about seller's immediate listing in online auction forum. In general, relisting items in smaller market place like PCM, results in lower final bid and create its own lower comps.....

FYI to potential bidders, this car went Reserve Not Met at $235k on Bring a Trailer last week (8/25).
