This 1962 Porsche 356B is a first-year T6 Karmann Coupe that was purchased by its current owner in 1990. The car was refinished in 2015 and was reconditioned for road use in 2023 with a new fuel tank and pump, rebuilt carburetors, a replacement red leather interior, and more. This classic 356B is now being offered for auction on behalf of its longtime owner out of New York.

Introduced in mid-1962, the Porsche 356B featured new T6 bodywork characterized by its twin-grille engine cover, external fender-mounted fuel filler, and larger rear window. This Karmann-built bodywork of this 356B was originally painted in Ivory (6204) and was refinished circa 2015. Equipment includes body-color bumpers with chrome bumper guards, a polished driver’s side mirror, pop-out front and rear vent windows, Cibie headlights, gold rear lettering, a Karmann fender badge, and chrome 15” slotted steel wheels with Porsche-branded hubcaps and 165-series Centered Metric Radial tires.

Inside, the cabin was fitted with reupholstered red leather seats with black piping in December 2023 along with matching inner panels and carpets. Accessories include black floormats, a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, door pockets, manual window cranks, a body-colored dash fascia, a locking glovebox, an analog clock, and VDO instrument dials.

Power comes from an air-cooled 1.6-liter flat-four engine with dual carburetors, sending power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle. Service completed in December 2023 includes replacements of the fuel tank, fuel pump, and windshield wiper motor, rebuilding the carburetors and shifter assembly, and repair of the left-front wheel bearing.

This sale will include original literature and a clean title.

    @CraziePop ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

    This 1962 Porsche 356B is a Karmann-bodied coupe that was acquired by the current owner in 1990 and was repainted in the mid 2010s. it remained in storage until the beginning of 2023, and in all that time , NO rust has shown through, This would suggest a bair metal repaint however, we do not have any corroborating documentation relating to any work undertaken before the car came to us for decommissioning in 2023 and work included rebuilding the shifter assembly and carburetors, installing the glass and interior, and replacing the fuel tank and pump. We do not know if this engine has been rebuilt although is highly likely . Again we do not have any supporting documentation to corroborate this. The Engine is very strong and runs very well, there are no oil leaks a Video has been supplied on this listing.

    I love your 356. I had a ‘63 356B Normal Coupe for 24 years. #212392. Same Ivory with red interior. Spent 5 years restoring it then it sat in my garage with a cover on it while my kids rode their bicycles around it. Scary. Good luck with your auction. If you don’t get what you want, leave it to your kids.

  • Chatntoo (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

    Has wrong fuel tank but correct fuel gauge. 1962 was a one year only fuel tank with a bottom fuel sender matched up with a one year only fuel gauge. Unless this top fuel sender and fuel guage was calibrated together the fuel quantity will not read correct.
