The second generation of the Corvette Sting Ray debuted in 1963, introducing the iconic C2 as an aerodynamically optimized sports car with updated styling, and improved steering, braking, and suspension systems. This launch-year Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray convertible is powered by an optional fuel-injected 327ci L84 V8 engine mated to a Borg-Warner 4-speed manual transmission. Initially delivered in Riverside Red and accompanied by extensive documentation as well as an NCRS Top Flight Award, this fully restored 1963 example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas.

Designed by Larry Shinoda, the styling of the C2 was largely inspired by the Jaguar E-Type and the original Corvette XP-87 Sting Ray racing concept car of 1959. The fiberglass bodywork of this Sting Ray comes finished in Riverside Red with a matching hardtop and is said to have been completely repainted during a frame-off restoration. Features include concealed headlights, split chrome bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets. The 15″ steel wheels wear polished knock-off style covers and are mounted with Firestone Delux Champion tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with photos of the refurbishment.

The cabin features bucket seats reupholstered in black vinyl joined by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, carpets, and interior trim.  Equipment includes a vertical push button Delco AM/FM radio. The instrumentation presents bent needles with brushed centers and a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and gauges for fuel level, amperage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. Equipment includes a three-spoke steering wheel, a center armrest, a heater and defroster, a reverse lock-out shifter, an analog clock, and lap belts. The seller reports all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

Beneath the hood lies a 327ci L84 V8 engine equipped with Rochester mechanical fuel injection along with a high-lift camshaft. Up to 360 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller adds that the restoration included new suspension equipment, brake components, wires, and an engine rebuild. The seller has provided extensive service documentation as shown in the gallery.

This sale will include a clean title, extensive service records, an NRCS Top Flight Award, and concours judging sheets.

This car is worth way more than current bids. That stainless exhaust is a great finishing touch.

It is a long way from a Chapter award to a Duntov award including a Top Flight at a National Convention. So I agree that a Chapter Top Flight is a plus but the judging standards are far greater at a Regional and a National level;.

@wake00 Thanks for the car history info. I agree with you that this car may very well qualify for a Duntov award.
Thanks for the 57 Vett notice. Those invoices got mixed in with the 63 by mistake.

This 63 was previously in our collection so I know it well. This is a VERY nice restoration. This isn't a father son garage restoration. This car was professionally restored by a well known shop. It takes a lot of time and money to get a car to this level. After we had the car judged, several judges asked if we were going to continue with the process and go for the Duntov award. Several of them were Master level judges so they were tough. This is a nice, correct car that I don't think will disappoint. GLWTA

*One note to the seller, I see several invoices for a 1957 Corvette that I don't think pertain to this car.

I just added a photo of the engine pad #, which is F0129RF. That number indicates 360hp Fuel injected with manual trans. If you look at the NCRS judging sheets photos under mechanical you'll see all the numbers including engine cast # 3782870, which I don't have a picture of, but will try and take one.

Happy bidding on this beautifully restored Sting Ray.
This example is out of a Corvette collection and has very few miles since restoration.
I am available to answer any questions you may have.

Boy, is this thing appealing. Had one just like it with a Carb. Such an easy car to drive compared to a C-1. GL
