Up for auction is this 1963 Porsche 356B 1600 Super Coupe finished in Black over a red leatherette interior. This 1963 example marks the final year of the 356B generation and features T6 bodywork by Karmann.  It was acquired by the third and current owner out of Indianapolis in 1981 and subsequently underwent an engine rebuild before the car was tucked away in early 1983. It has recently emerged from long-term storage retaining a nearly complete interior, drum brakes, a 4-speed manual gearbox, and a proper Type 616/12 flat-four engine. The ideal basis for a full restoration, this 356B barn-find is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.

This 356B is finished in Black and sports T6 bodywork by Karmann with a distinctive twin-grille rear decklid.  It came factory finished in the highly desirable nonmetallic shade of Slate Grey (6201) as confirmed by the tag in the driver-side door jamb.  The seller reports some touch-ups on the driver-side door and rear quarter panel as well as general signs of patina throughout the exterior. The front bumper has been removed, Super 90 badging has been added to the rear, and the factory 15” steel wheels have been recently dressed in a set of used tires for transportation. The original front bumper will accompany the sale along with a set of chrome hubcaps and a rear tow hitch attachment, detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the red leatherette interior remains largely intact with front and rear seats, a headliner, door panels, carpeting, and a three-spoke steering wheel.  The dashboard retains a full suite of instrumentation as well as the original radio.  Much of the upholstery has deteriorated with age, although the seller believes some of the more valuable parts such as the dashboard and steering wheel have been preserved in salvageable condition.

This Coupe is equipped with a Type 616/12 1600cc engine (705396) paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox (41652).  The engine is said to have been rebuilt during the early 1980s and its serial number corresponds with a 1963 356B 1600 S. Images of the brakes, wheel wells, case stampings, and engine bay are provided in the gallery.

This sale will include the original front bumper, hubcaps, tow hitch, historical documentation, a set of keys, and a clean title.  For any enthusiast looking to take on a restoration project, this nearly complete 356B barn-find offers the perfect opportunity.

@Porshafile YES, engine turns freely. However, no attempt to start. As pictured, air cleaners are missing and a new battery will be needed.

@jimcomer Hello Everyone! We're so excited to send this ol' gal off into her next chapter with someone who will give her a new lease on life.
thanks for asking. While the engine/trans numbers ARE CORRECT for the model and year according to vin sequencing, we cannot say unequivocally that this is a "numbers matching vehicle" without a "Technical Certificate" (what used to be referred to as the CoA). A physical inspection of the car is now required to obtain that document, the closest dealer to do so is over a hundred miles away from the vehicle, and, well...it's not the easiest one to transport at the moment. ; ) So, we've decided to present the car here without a PTC, but instead with the information we have from vin sequencing and the current owner, who has owned the car since 1981 and who does confidently claim that it is the original engine.

I'm here for any and all queries!
& @Aiello11, thank you for the kind words, and happy bidding to all.

    - Nick
