This 1963 Porsche 356B 1600 Super Coupe features Karmann T6 bodywork in Ruby Red and has spent the last 25 years in Spokane, Washington while cared for by three fastidious owners, all prominent members of the Porsche Club of America. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this classic 356B is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington.

This Karmann Coupe came factory-finished in Ruby Red (6202) and features chrome bumpers with integrated exhaust outlets, a twin-grille rear decklid, and chrome headlight guards. The 15” slotted wheels are fitted with chrome Super hubcaps and a set of Yokohama tires. The seller notes that a correct date-coded spare wheel is included in the trunk. The right front fender was previously refinished to address a scratch and the right rear quarter was recently repainted following a minor cosmetic incident. A corresponding repair invoice is said to be available. The exterior is described to be in very good overall condition with only a few minor touched-up chips throughout. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin was reupholstered in what is believed to be red leather over three decades ago. Equipment includes a three-spoke steering wheel, lap belts, a locking glovebox, a vintage Bendix Sapphire IV radio, and auxiliary gauges mounted below the center dashboard. The upholstery exhibits some patina and the seller states that the carpeting appears to be original with some signs of wear noted on the driver’s sill. All gauges and accessories are said to remain fully functional.

An air-cooled Type 616/12 flat-four engine delivers power to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual gearbox. Said to have been overhauled during the mid-1990s, the engine has been fitted with Weber carburetors and a big bore kit for increased power while the transmission was overhauled and modified with a Freeway Flyer 4th gear for better high-speed cruising. The seller states the car had been personally serviced by its prior owners and the front and rear shocks were rebuilt at 119k miles. The clutch cable and housing were replaced along with the clutch and flywheel at 122k miles. The left rear wheel bearing has also been replaced in addition to the axle boots, shift linkage, and kingpin. A four-wheel alignment has been completed and slight oil seepage is noted from the engine.

This sale will include a clean title and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity

@jeffsnook THANKFULLY this is NOT Bring a Trailer!!!!! First off, I would never and I do mean NEVER list a car with them. 3 bad experiences later with BaT and they'll never see me again. The folks here at Pcar are stand up folks, they're word is good. Read into that what-ever you'd like.

  • porscheklaus (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

Congrats to the winning bider. Great buy!

  • jeffsnook (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Qtrfoil My experience with BaT is that they have an algorithm that calculates the high bid and what their commission would be at that price and to see if it makes any sense to sell it at the high bid and then pay the owner the balance of the reserve amount. That way at least they make something on the sale. I know it happened a couple times when I have sold cars there. Don't know if PCAR does the same.

  • porscheklaus (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Qtrfoil you'll need to ask pcar. Thanks

Always curious - are the delays a chance to see if the seller will accept an offer that's close to the reserve but doesn't meet it?

Perhaps I should again point out that the car is not a concours winner ( but we do not have a concours resetve either) the car is a VERY, VERY nice driver. Drive it ANYWHERE, right now. Thanks

  • porscheklaus (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Roryt21 Not that I am aware of. Given the cars age however, that repairs may have been made at some time is possible. The floors look and are solid, the jack points most certainly are.

  • Roryt21 (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Have any of the floor pans or longitudinal’s been replaced or have rust?

  • porscheklaus (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Personal observation; I've been around Porsche's a good deal longer than I care to admit... long time. This is truly a great driving car. The car starts instantly cold or warm. Clutch take-up is both slip and chatter free. Shift quality is excellent. Brake pedal pressure and feel are also excellent. There is no steering play and the tracks straight. If you've seen the driving video and for those of you who have not been to Spokane, our streets are simply terrible. (Another adjective here would be far more appropriate) There is hardly a squeak or rattle in the car. With its longer 4th gear "Scarlet" is perfectly comfortable at 70mph plus all day long. Truly, a turn key driver that anyone would be proud to take care of.

Could we get some more underneath chassis photos, as well as more of the frunk, please? Would you please weigh in on areas of known rust? Recently purchased a Silver 356 previously from Washington, that owner still involved with the local club(although now sans 356). Interested in this one too.

  • TCar (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@sporscheklaus / seller, we need pictures of the engine number and transmission number.
Better pictures of the floor from inside the car and under.
If you said Red on Red to me without seeing a picture, I would have thought it wounded like too much. It does look nice!

Ladies and Gentlemen, meet "Scarlet". Scarlet is EXTREMELY well known in the local Inland Northwest PCA community. I have know all three of the cars owners for a number of years and when the cars last owner recently passed, I was asked to represent the car. Scarlet is a documented, number matching example of a great driving 356. She's not a Pebble winner, thankfully, as she can be driven, shown and enjoyed just as is for many a year to come. Truly a turn-key example. Feel free with any questions, I'll answer them to my best ability. Happy bidding. Someone is going to end up with a very nice car.
