In September of 1959, Porsche revealed their fully updated 356 known as the 356B. Along with the updated styling came the new Type 616/7 Super 90 engine. This 1963 Karmann-built example comes finished in Silver Metallic over a reupholstered blue leather interior and features a Type 616/7 1600cc flat-four-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. It is said to have been acquired by the seller several years ago from its previous owner out of Arizona and subsequently treated to fresh paint, a reupholstered interior, a later model transaxle, and an engine refresh. Accompanied by documentation of matching engine numbers along with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this 356 Super 90 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Oklahoma.
This 356 has been refinished in its factory-specified color of Silver Metallic (6206). The seller notes that the car was fully disassembled, and the glass was removed before it was refinished. Imperfections are said to be minimal, and a layer of ceramic coating was recently applied. It rides on a set of 15” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and Goodyear Eagle Touring tires. The cabin has been reupholstered in blue leather which is complimented by a body-colored dashboard and grey square weave carpeting. Amenities include a VDO analog clock, roll-up windows, a locking glove box, and opening front 3/4 vent windows. The seller states that the cabin is in very nice overall condition and confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional.
Power comes from a Type 616/7 1600cc flat-four 90 HP engine. At its release Type 616/7 featured a new intake manifold, a larger Solex 40 PII-4 carburetor, Carrera air filters, 9.0:1 pistons, stronger valve springs, and a different crankshaft with 55mm main bearings. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that the car retains its original engine number matching engine and that the transaxle was sourced from a later car. Within the last 100 miles, a full service was carried out including a refresh of the engine.
This sale will include a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: "This is a super nice refreshed survivor example of a 1963 356B S90, and it looks as good in person as it does in the supplied pics, along with being a super nice driver. This car was just pulled out of a very nice collection, so it has been serviced. I have personally put 100+ miles on the car after its service, and it drives like it should."
