Available for auction is this 1964 Porsche 356 C finished in black over a red leather interior. Inspired by the customized “Outlaw” Porsches of the 1950s and 60s, this 356 underwent a complete outlaw-style restoration courtesy of U.K.-based Porsche specialists including Transend, PR Services, and Prill Porsche Classics. It was acquired by its current owner from RM Sothebys and was subsequently imported to the United States. It features a 616/36 flat four-cylinder engine which has been upgraded by Andy Prill, as well as Koni Classic shocks, a custom upholstered interior with a Nardi steering wheel and a Junghans mechanical clock. Accompanied by service records dating back to 1986, this 356 C is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.

This 356 comes finished in black bisected by red stripes and features shaved front and rear bumpers. The seller notes that the body and finish remain in excellent overall condition, having been refinished during its restoration. Details include dual polished side mirrors, Mobil Oil Pegasus decals, headlight grills, a twin-grill engine lid, leather trunk straps, front fog lights, a battery kill switch, front and rear tow points, and a set of 5-lug steel wheels. Minor imperfections are noted, and detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features a pair of low-back seats with custom red leather upholstery and Willians four-point harnesses. The door panels and upper dashboard are trimmed with matching leather, and the floor is lined with grey carpeting. Details include a rebuilt 356 Carrera tachometer, a Halda Tripmaster odometer, a Junghans J30BZ mechanical aircraft clock, a VDO oil pressure gauge in place of the original clock, and a mahogany and aluminum Nardi steering wheel. All lighting is said to have been upgraded to halogen or LED bulbs. The seller adds that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional, and minor signs of wear are noted. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Power comes from a Porsche 912 sourced 616/36 flat-four cylinder engine which was rebuilt and upgraded by Andy Prill of Prill Porsche Classics. The engine's displacement was increased to 1,720cc and it was fitted with a full-flow oil system, Shasta pistons and cylinders, a Neutek camshaft, Solex 40 PII carburetors, and Petronix ignition. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transaxle. The transmission, rear drivetrain, and disc brakes are said to have been rebuilt and the wiring for the six-volt electrical system has been refurbished. The suspension has been upgraded with Koni Classic shocks and 17mm anti-roll bars. Service records dating back to 1986 are said to accompany the car.

This sale will include a clean title.

@bunk The Service Records start from page 201 and end at 311. They start from 1986- present, I have emailed Andy Prill who built the engine for a official number but I would say between 150-175hp. The power to weight ratio makes this car a treat to zip around in.

  • bunk 1 year, 2 monthsago

I tried to find an updated hp rating in the documentation, but was honestly overwhelmed. The car seems to pull nicely; can you share what the 912 motor as set up generates for hp? Beautiful job on this Outlaw; I'm in love...

    it's a shame the upgrade didn't include a 12V conversion

  • Damaho912 1 year, 3 monthsago

Oh my! Generally not a fan of outlaws, especially if done to an actual Porsche (I’m ok if someone outlaws a replica). But this one is the exception. Just fantastic!

  • Bengt (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

    Very nice car
Can you be more specific about”minor imperfections and wear and tear is showing”

@Somer New photos have been added to the listing showing that there is no cracking on the driver's side quarter. Those were noted as spider webs which have been removed.

  • Somer (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

In frame #52 is that a crack in the paint or an errant spider web?

  • mb36cg (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Very cool. Love the dash timers. Where do you put the plates? Or is that part of the "outlaw"? :)
