Produced from 1959 through 1967, the Austin-Healey 3000 saw success in motorsports throughout the European rally circuit. This 1965 MKIII BJ8 convertible was built on January 13-14, 1964, and comes refinished in Colorado Red over black leather upholstery. Accompanied by a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, and benefitting from a previous complete restoration along with several recent upgrades, this Austin Healey is now being offered for auction by its seller out of North Carolina.
This example is said to have been completely refinished in Colorado Red as part of its restoration and rides on newer 15” 60-spoke MWS chrome wire wheels dressed in Firestone Tubeless Radial tires from 2016. Details include a black convertible top, a hood scoop, front auxiliary lights, an aftermarket bullet-style driver’s side mirror, chrome bumpers with overriders, ventilation windows, and a dual exhaust outlet. The cabin is appointed with black leather and features reupholstered seat covers, door inserts, and carpeting. Polished wood decorates the dashboard and a contrasting wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames the instrumentation. Equipment includes a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a locking glove box, and chrome accents. The seller states the tachometer was rebuilt and the dual gauge was replaced. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly, although the windshield washing system is currently disconnected.
This 3000 MK III is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six engine paired with a 4-speed overdrive manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The seller states all cylinders have been tested at 155-160 psi, a gear reduction starter was installed, a new steering control head was installed, and the signals were repaired. Additionally, the transmission has been removed and resealed.
This sale will include a clean title, a spare wheel and tire, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, and some documentation.

@AtomRacer The scratches and nicks happened before my ownership. I am not sure when the previous restoration was started but we finished it in 2023 going through the car to make it a good driver and I don't think there were many miles placed on the car after the previous owner had his work finished.

@eurocol These front and rear lights were the same on the Phase 1 Mark III BJ8 cars. Austin Healey 100 and 3000 cars were painted body color from the factory. If the buyer wanted something different like undercoating for example, the dealer did this in the USA.

@eurocol Thank you for your comment. You are incorrect. This is a Mark III BJ8 Phase 1. It is an early BJ8. If it was a Mark II it would be a BJ7 and would not have the wood dash. Also the Heritage certificate would not show this being a Mark III. Furthermore, the chassis number prefix would not start out with HBJ8.....

This car has the best of both earlier and later Healey worlds. The 3000 engine, roll up windows, not jacked up off the ground to meet DOT REGS, center console and no ugly plastic enlarged break and front lenses. There probably are other things like the wood dash I forgot.
@Butane Yes this car was produced in early 1964 so it is a 1964 model (refrigerator door handles, center console storage box, glass tail lamps, lower to the ground, etc.) but because it probably wasn't originally titled until 1965, it is titled and remains titled as a 1965 Austin Healey. Thanks.

This is a rare car. Very few were made.
I believe your car is a 1964. The flip center glove box was only made in 1964 as well as the glass tail lights for a very early BJ8 and the body is lower to the ground as earlier Healy’s. The glove box was made Canada! They were using up earlier parts. I have the same car.
