Marking the final year of Porsche’s iconic 356 model, this 1965 Porsche 356C 1600 Coupe features an original 1.6-liter flat-four engine and a numbers-matching 4-speed manual transaxle. The car came factory-finished in Bali Blue over black leatherette upholstery and was completely restored to its original specifications under the care of its previous owner of 45 years. Driven less than 1,200 miles since the engine and transmission were rebuilt, this restored 356C Coupe is now being offered for auction out of Alabama, accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

The Karmann-built bodywork has been refinished in its factory color of Bali Blue (6412). It features chrome trim and window moldings, a driver’s side mirror, front vent windows, pop-out rear quarter windows, rear bumperettes with integrated exhaust outlets, twin-grille rear decklid, a chrome luggage rack, and reproduction 15” slotted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and Continental True Contact 185/65 tires. The car is said to exhibit a show-quality appearance throughout. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin has been restored to its original appearance with black leatherette upholstery, charcoal square weave carpeting, and a beige headliner. Accessories include a body-colored dashboard fascia, front bucket seats, folding rear seats, lap belts, a black three-spoke steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, an analog clock, a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, and aftermarket footwell speakers. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

The original 1.6-liter Type 616/15 flat-four engine was factory rated at 88 HP and 90 lb-ft of torque. It drives the rear wheels through a numbers-matching 4-speed manual transaxle. The car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, Koni shocks, and a Dansk muffler. The engine and carburetors were rebuilt by Memphis Motor Werks in 2016, along with installation of a new clutch, starter, transmission mounts, shifter bushings, CV boots, fuel lines, and rebuilt brake calipers with new hoses. In 2019, the car was also serviced with a rebuilt fuel pump, a new master brake cylinder, a shifter shaft seal, axle boot, and a brake fluid flush. Corresponding invoices are provided in the gallery.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a jack, a spare tire, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, service records, and a clean title.

Thinking I might not be the only one who was surprised that such a nice facility full of wonderful things could be found in Alabama😊

@skylane9 The Porsche CoA matching Engine# and Transmission# photos are included in tonight PCM admin undercarriage upload -- also the VIN# plate.

  • ehd911 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@JuanValdez +/- 100 undercarriage photos uploaded to PCM admin -- should be available in the image gallery soon.

@84turbocab The driving video is 6:49 long (I'm driving & shifting with one-hand and videoing with the other, thus it's always a bit challenging) -- if you are saying "..it's not a good video..", please advise what you would like to see.

    Not a good driving video???

  • MIAJK (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@kda1570 I see it was previously listed on eBay. I could have sworn I saw it listed a few weeks back in the Porsche 356 Registry, but could be confusing it with another I saw in AL. Regardless, looks like a very nicely restored 356.

  • ehd911 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@JuanValdez Noted, yet the lift requires "far less effort" than crawling around a car for 50->100 photos, Lol -- yet, I agree that it's good to have both perspectives and will get the "lift photos" ASAP, hopefully today.

  • ehd911 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@GregoryLindsay The matching numbers engine and transmission were rebuilt as part of the Bali Blue's restoration -- less than 1,200 miles since rebuild. Please advise if you need anything else.

  • ehd911 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@kda1570 No, it has not been listed on BaT; the 1965 Bali Blue 356C has been owned by our client/consignor for 46 years and our engagement is it's first offering by our client.

  • GregoryLindsay (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Can you give more information on engine and trans

  • kda1570 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

    Wasn’t this just on BAT?

  • JuanValdez (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

I think you will be well served with that effort. It seems to be SOP in order to sell 356s and vintage 911s.

  • ehd911 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@JuanValdez Actually, I crawled around Bali Blue "flat on the floor", taking care in my effort to provide the (54) photos uploaded, during bad weather -- I'll get it to a lift and "up in the air" to provide more undercarriage photos, per your request, ASAP.

  • JuanValdez (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Lovely car, but if u hope for more than a few bids at 50 K or so, you need to get this car up on a lift and take comprehensive undercarriage pics. Learn over and stick your IPhone under just doesn’t cut it anymore.
