Representing the original version of Jaguar’s iconic E-Type sports car, this 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I Coupe was originally sold through Sommer in Copenhagen, Denmark, before being imported to the United States where it reportedly spent over 40 years under the care of the same family in California. The car features an upgraded Cosworth 5-speed manual transmission paired with its 4.2-liter inline-six engine as well as an upgraded adjustable suspension, cooling system, alternator, and air conditioning system. Benefitting from recent maintenance and refurbishment by the specialist at Muncie Imports and Classics, this XKE is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Indiana.
The XKE Series I is sought after for its glass-covered headlights, small front grille, and split chrome rear bumper. This fixed-head coupe came factory-finished in Opalescent Silver Grey and had been previously modified with a Series II-style front end which was reverted by Pumphrey & Co. of Campbell, California under prior ownership. It then underwent a full rotisserie repaint in its original color by Images Autobody of California in 2016. It has been equipped with a Walpres driver-side mirror and rides on a set of chrome 15” wire knockoff wheels. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is trimmed in black leather upholstery with matching carpets and a three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel. Accessories include lap belts, analog Smiths instrument dials, toggle switches, rubber floor mats, a padded armrest, pop-out rear vent windows, and an upgraded air conditioning system from Clayton Classics. The seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.
Power comes from a 4.2-liter XK inline-six engine featuring triple SU carburetors, an upgraded high-output alternator, an updated electric starter, and a CoolCat aluminum radiator with an electric fan. The rear wheels are driven by an upgraded Cosworth 5-speed manual transmission. The chassis includes four-wheel disc brakes and an upgraded suspension with adjustable front shock absorbers as well as upgraded torsion bars and sway bars. The seller indicates that the vehicle has been meticulously maintained and recent mechanical refurbishment was completed by the Jaguar specialists at Muncie Imports and Classics.
This sale will include some documentation, a spare tire, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting the auction. This E-Type is made to be driven. Recent services completed. Please feel free to ask any questions.”
