This 1966 Porsche 912 has been transformed into a ’73 Carrera RS tribute finished in a yellow/black theme and benefits from a considerable investment in service over the past few years including the installation of a new air-cooled 1.6L motor. This RS tribute is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia.

The exterior of this early 912 is said to have been completely refinished in the current shade of yellow and has been decorated with black Carrera RS graphics as well as an RS-style front bumper and ducktail rear decklid. Other details include a chrome driver’s side mirrors, new 15” Fuchs wheels with new tires, and rear bumperettes with rubber overriders and chrome bumper bars. The paint code stamped in the driver’s door jamb shows the original color of the car to have been Aga Blue (6608) and the current finish is said to be in excellent overall condition. The seller states that two additional sets of Cookie Cutter wheels accompany the sale.

The cabin is said to retain original black leatherette upholstery with basketweave seat centers and brushed aluminum trim across the dashboard. An aftermarket Alpine radio and amplifier have been installed and a removable leather cover has been stitched over the steering wheel.

Power comes from an aftermarket 1,566cc air-cooled engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox that drives the rear wheels. The seller states around $18k was invested in the installation of the new motor as well as some other service items completed throughout their ownership.

This sale will include a clean title.

Please note: I can include a 1970 911 motor and transmission to winning bidder for an additional 7,000 if desired, thanks for viewing

  • mrm930 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

For me this is a complete base for a proper build. Complete tear down, stripped to metal, etc. Needs a true 911 motor and deco trim delete for starters. I will be watching this one to see where it goes.

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Chipper that was the total cost to install motor, suspension, brakes, rims, tires, new fuel system, new gas tank, exhaust system and restore car, all parts, paint ect, thanks

  • Chipper (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

how can you spend 18k on a beetle engine install? a 912 engine would have been less.

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Jacksunoco Yeah ideally that was the plan but when I bought the car the motor came with it so I just want ahead and installed it,the car does run and drive pretty good starts right up every time I’m going to post driving videos and a cold start on Monday, thanks for viewing

  • Jacksunoco (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

I think a VW engine hurts this , why would one not buy a Porsche engine 356 or 912 , making a lot more sense . To each his own , maybe the sale will leave new buyer room to install a real engine in the car . This has me sitting on the fence .

For 18k on a type 1 1600 you would think he would have cleaned it better, and lose the angle iron spring return. This car needed a good detail, overspray etc.. before the pics were taken. Good luck, could be a fun car.

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@richjs43 Yeah it may just be a bit dirty again sometimes the photographers do not clean the cars properly but there’s definitely no chips, it was literally just painted a month ago, If there are any rock chips I’ll just get the paint guy to touch it up but I don’t think there are, I can check tomorrow when I go to the drive-in video thanks

  • richjs43 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@prmnorton1 : the reason I asked about chips, pictures 16 and 17, around the Porsche emblem….does this car have PPF….?

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@richjs43 you’re welcome thanks for your interest

  • richjs43 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@prmnorton1 thanks for the quick response….

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@richjs43 tered bidder) The pictures were taken about two weeks ago, it was repainted about a month ago , I do have some of the records for installing the motor in the wiring as far as the other things like the rims the tires the paint things like that I do not have the records/receipts I just have what I paid as far as out of my bank account, I will post those records today and I’ll go ahead and get a coldstart and a driving video in a day or two Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of before I got it, it wasn’t in that bad of condition I just had to basically put the car back together as far as the Brakes, the rotors the rims and tires the motor all that kind of stuff, As far as the motor no I do not have really any documentation on it I will post some pictures of the engine number the motor actually came with the vehicle I just basically had to put everything back together, thanks

  • richjs43 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@prmnorton1 : not sure when the pictures in your listing were taken…When exactly was it repainted , do you have receipts for the work. do you have current pictures? Also, cold start and driving videos would be appreciated. Do you have any documentation/pictures of the restoration showing the condition of the Porsche before getting it to its current awesome condition. do you have any info on the motor replacement (age, what car is it from)….thanks

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@1973tbry The cost include the the installation of the motor all the wiring and mechanical and other miscellaneous items, brakes, wheels, tires, rotors, ect, the engine itself was not that expensive, also the paint, graphics, and other miscellaneous items, car looks awesome in my opinion, actually one of my favorites out of my collection

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@richjs43 No there are no rock chips the car was actually just recently re-painted and yes the car is in Virginia that’s just a old classic license plate I have

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@haasfogle Correct in the description that’s where it says aftermarket motor I think it’s a VW I’m not 100% sure, thanks

  • 1973tbry (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

$18k spent on a VW engine is quite a lot of money.

  • richjs43 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@prmnorton1: there appears to be some
rock chips on the hood. Please comment. Also is the car in Virginia or NY (license plate). Thanks

  • haasfogle (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

it should be noted that your Carrera RS tribute has a VW type1 engine.
