Up for auction is this classic 1966 Porsche 912 Coupe finished in Polo Red over Black interior.  Representing Porsche’s entry level sports car in its day, the 912 shares the iconic styling of the 911 along with the 1600cc flat-four engine from the 356 model.  A full restoration was carried out in 2001 which included an engine overhaul as well as a full respray in Polo Red.  Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as well as an impressive collection of service records dating back to the original purchase, this early 1966 example is ready for its next caretaker.

This 912 was completely refinished in Polo Red at the time of the restoration in 2001.  The original factory color is indicated to have been Gulf Blue and the seller confirms the paint to remain in excellent shape with minimal imperfections (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Exterior details include chrome brightwork and chrome ventilated wheels.

Inside, this 912 features a Black interior with White door panels.  The cabin is said to be in great shape with some signs of wear and the seller indicates that aftermarket R134 air conditioning has been installed along with an aftermarket radio and pioneer door speakers.  This 912 showcases an original dashboard with correct 3-gauge instrument layout also derived from the 356.

Power comes from a 1600cc flat-four engine derived from the earlier Porsche 356 model.  Approximately 90 HP is delivered to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission which underwent a recent linkage adjustment.  The engine is said to have been overhauled at the time of the restoration in 2001 and service records dating back to 1966 show proper maintenance.

The sale of this 912 will be accompanied by a set of 2 keys, original books, service records form new, Concours ribbons and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.  Do not let this beautiful Porsche 912 pass you by.

@vicktorvolpe The car will certainly get out of its own way and will cruise nice at 75-80mph on the freeway. Not 911 fast obviously, but still very spirited and quick to drive.

Does the car run, and how many miles were on it when it was restored. Would it make it to Colorado being driven?

  • vicktorvolpe (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

    Seriously good looking car.

What types of speeds would this car be capable of cruising the highway at? Not looking for a 120 mph car like this, but curious if they keep up with traffic.

Looks like a later front trunk latch plate (with drain holes). What's this history of front end damage/repairs? Thanks.
