The T1 generation of Type 2 buses are among the most desirable of all classic air-cooled Volkswagens, particularly those of the 21 and 23-window configurations. This 1966 Volkswagen Type 2 comes finished in two-tone Lotus White and red over a two-tone grey and white interior and was converted to a 23-window model as part of its restoration by Overland Importers in 2022. The restoration included a rebuild of the 1.5-liter flat-four-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual trans axel, overhauls of the suspension, steering, braking, and electrical systems, fresh paint, a reupholstered interior, and more. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Georgia.

During its restoration in 2021, this Type 2 was refinished in two-tone Lotus White and red and fitted with Alpine roof windows, pop-out side windows, and a split windshield with pop-out front glass. Details include chrome bumpers and bright trim, a retractable vinyl roof, dual roof racks with wood slats, a side ladder with wood steps, and a set of Lotus White finished steel wheels with chrome Volkswagen hub caps and trim rings. The wheels come dressed in a set of Nexen White Stripe tires. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The nine-passenger cabin was re-trimmed during the restoration and features three rows of bench seating upholstered in two-tone grey and white vinyl, which extends to the side and door panels. Features include a folding second row, black carpets, an overhead ventilation console, a second-row padded bulkhead, and seat belts for nine. The seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories are working properly.

Power comes from an air-cooled 1500cc 4-cylinder engine which drives the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual transaxle. The seller reports the engine and transmission were rebuilt during the restoration while the suspension, steering, and braking systems were also refurbished. Some notable items include a new carburetor, ignition coil, spark plugs and wires, voltage regulator, wiring harness, a graduated crank pulley, and adjustable tensioner and alternator pulleys.

This sale will include a bill of sale.

Just under 2 hours in the Auction and thanks again to everyone watching and bidding. We added a video of the undercarriage so you can see the Belly Pans and we added photos as well of the undercarriage. We have some instagram posts of the build as well but let us know if there is any other questions you have about this bus. RUNS GREAT, LOOKS GREAT and we are very proud of this build that took about 1 year and hundreds of man hours to restore to this state. It's one of our best work to date.

    Very nice Belly Pans:)

Hello everyone please find the undercarriage and lift walk around video for the bus.

You will notice that the heater tubes are still intact u der the vehicle if anyone wants to add the collectors to the back to make it operable again.

Also please notice the belly pans which helps maintain the structural integrity and body rigidity during the skylights and ragtop installation.

Hello everyone. One day remains on the auction and thank you to all those with the bids and for the questions. Feel free to ask more questions in the last 24 hours. We are monitoring the auction all the time. You can see much more of our work on our website www.overlandimorts.com and our instagram @overland_imports. We have been building VW buses now for about 8 years and of course our most recent builds are our best as we continue to improve. The Belly pans are a huge addition to these buses to match the German specs. And we added very nice Chrome upgrades through out. Thanks to everyone and good luck in the last 24 hours of this auction.

@Grbrblue it was imported all properly. It was removed from the Container and then we had the police inspection and in Georgia it is a Bill of Sale state so they do not offer a Title for vehicles older than 1984. We always help with the transfer to the new state and we have done this several times into many different states across the USA.

  • Grbrblue (registered bidder) 11 monthsago

Was it properly imported into the USA and just want to confirm you don't have a Title? Thanks and GLWTS

Hello everyone. Thank you to PCARMARKET for setting up this auction for our great full frame off restoration of a 1966 VW 23 window Bus. This one has all the extras and a great color combination with Chrome throughout. This is a great VW Bus to drive and we can't wait to deliver this one to the new owner. We spent hundreds of man hours on this one it is a constant head turner when we drive it here in Atlanta.

Overland Imports is the premier builder of Volkswagen Buses, Toyota Bandeirantes(Brasilian Land Cruiser) and Land Rover Defenders out of Brasil. We are a USA based company owned by 3 Brasilian guys who started this Overland Imports 8 years ago. We have imported a large amount of vehicles from Brasil to North America and have sold close to 100 vehicles to customers all over North America from California to Maine, Florida to Alaska. We do the full frame off restorations in Brasil and bring into Atlanta, GA where we handle all the importation, police inspections and a final mechanical inspection as well as driving our vehicles for a few months before offering up to auction. The buses are all kept inside our storage facility while waiting for the new owner.

We offer fully custom builds for customs and have several build specific to auctions. You can follow us on instagram @Overland_Imports and check us out at www.overlandimports.com.

Good luck to all the bidders and feel free to ask as many questions as you want. We will post some videos of the bus shortly. Thanks.
