The fourth generation Lincoln Continental was launched for the 1961 model year and marked Lincoln’s first use of its rear-hinged “suicide” doors since 1951. Lincoln was also the first major American manufacturer to produce a four-door convertible model since World War II. This 1967 example was originally purchased from Citrus Lincoln Mercury of Ontario, California, and is said to have remained in southern California for over 50 years. It received a comprehensive restoration in 2020 which included new paint and upholstery, a rebuild of its 462 c.i. V8 engine and 3-speed automatic transmission, a new convertible top and hydraulics, and more. It came factory-equipped with a power-operated convertible top, power steering, power-assisted brakes, air conditioning, a passenger side view mirror, and more. This example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Georgia.

This Continental comes finished in black and features a power-operated black convertible soft top. During its restoration in 2020, the body was completely refinished, a new convertible top was fitted along with the corresponding hydraulics, new rubber seals were fitted, and chrome surfaces were replated and polished. A complete paint correction is said to have been carried out in June of this year, and the seller has supplied a collection of detailed images which can be found in the gallery. Details include a power antenna, reverse-opening rear doors, chrome trim, a rare passenger side view mirror, and a set of 15″ steel wheels with polished hubcaps.

The cabin was reupholstered during its restoration with new black leather and matching carpets. Amenities include a power-adjustable front seat, power windows, lap belts, polished trim, and factory-equipped air conditioning. The windows wear a layer of removable tint and an upgraded sound system has been installed including a glove box-mounted Alpine XM AM/FM Bluetooth stereo, a flush-mounted subwoofer, and JL Audio amplifiers. The seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional.

The numbers matching 462ci V8 features a single Holley 750 CFM carburetor and was factory rated at 340 HP and 485 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 3-speed automatic transmission. The seller notes that the engine and transmission have been rebuilt, and a new fuel pump was installed along with custom brake lines, and new leaf springs. There are reportedly no outstanding issues to note at this time.

This sale will include a clean title.

Just 2 days remaining in the sale of this beautiful Continental!

I follow many collector online auction forums out there as well as regularly attend Major Collector Car Sales throughout the year.

Please keep in mind the competition, logistics, travel expenses, and buyer premiums can be exorbitant at most physical auctions.

PCARMARKET is a great venue. Im hoping this car meets reserve and goes to a new home in the end on Wednesday!

    Good luck everyone!

@Calikid a 3rd party inspection is absolutely no problem by appointment. Please use the contact seller button to make arrangements.

I’ll add some more photos of it before it was refurbished. I guarantee this was a solid rust free car and extremely rare true garage find!

Body panels, frame, engine and drivetrain is 100%.

  • Calikid (registered bidder) 8 monthsago

Do you have any more pictures of the car before restoration? If this is truly a rust free California car it’s a rare find and not something I have seen in the whole time I’ve been looking for one. Are there any fluid leaks? Is most everything original and working. Would you have a problem with a third party inspection?

  • miuraguy (registered bidder) 8 months, 1 weekago

Looks nearly perfect. What fantastic condition. I am not an expert....but I thought the "Lincoln star" emblem on the front fenders was a 1966 model year feature. Aren't most 1967 models shown without the emblem?

@artichoke @artichoke: only a couple items I have not fully diagnosed or researched repair:

    1. Windshield wiper fluid pump, not sure what the issue is, but no cleaning fluid comes up when the button is pressed. The wipers work fine.
    2. Drivers rear power window works fine with the switch in rear passenger seat. When using the switch for that window in drivers seat, it's inoperable while all others, including the wing windows, work as they should.

All other electronics work great! If you know these cars, the technology was impressive for that era!

    Thank you!

  • Lincoln_Convertible (seller) 8 months, 1 weekago

@artichoke I have a photo of the car when stripped to bare metal during restoration. There was no evidence of corrosion or prior body work. All original panels with no prior accidents. I'll see if I can add that photo. I've spoken to the owner who had the comprehensive restoration completed in Southern California during 2020. The story goes, he acquired the car through a home purchase where the elderly lady had the car parked in her garage; not driven for many, many years. I'm assuming the 5 digit odometer rolled over to 106K. I believe it was a 2 owner car prior to me buying it. As shown in the photo gallery, this car is very straight with great lines, fit and finish. Thank you for the questions and the starting bid!

Good morning, I’m excited to offer this excellent example of the ICONIC Last Year for the Lincoln Continental Convertible on PCARMARKET!

I’m an avid car enthusiast. My father owned a small used car lot where I spent literally all my time as a kid growing up fueling my passion for automobiles and running a small family business.

This 4th generation 1967 Continental was the final year for the Lincoln Convertible with coach “suicide” doors. Only 2,276 were produced and sold when new!

I’ve been fortunate to own so many cars with this hobby and I can say without question; this car receives more waves, smiles, and thumbs up than any car I’ve had the pleasure cruising.

I’ll be available throughout the auction to field any questions that may come up during the sale.

Thank you and good luck to all!
