Developed as a successor to the Porsche 356, the original Porsche 911 was introduced in 1963 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, quickly earning acclaim for its novel design, exceptional performance, and cutting-edge engineering. Refinished in its factory-specified shade of Polo Red over black upholstery, this classic short-wheelbase 1967 example is said to have undergone a complete engine rebuild in 2002 along with extensive service throughout September 2023. A lifelong California car that had been under the care of its third owner since 1976, this numbers-matching 911 was previously listed on PCARMARKET and is now being offered for auction with several new refurbishments.

This 911 was reportedly refinished in its factory-specified shade of Polo Red under prior ownership. Details include chrome bumperettes, headlight bezels, horn grilles, mirrors, and window trim, along with gold-colored model lettering, front window vents, pop-put rear quarter windows, and recently refinished 15” slotted wheels with new period-correct chrome Porsche-crested hub caps and new Nexen SP-80 tires. The seller notes minor signs of paint touchups and that nearly all rubber gaskets were replaced within the last month. A full exterior paint correction has also been carried out since the car was last offered for auction.

The cabin presents black leatherette upholstery with matching door panels, rear seats, and carpets contrasted with a tan headliner. A correct leather-wrapped VDM steering wheel and restored bat wing horn puck have been installed and the original steering wheel is said to accompany the sale. The interior has also been refurbished with a replacement short-wheelbase metal dash sourced from Tony Garcia of Autobahn Interiors.

Power is derived from an air-cooled 2.0-liter flat-six carbureted engine. As much as 130 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The seller states the engine was completely rebuilt in 2002 (approximately 6k miles ago) at a cost of over $12k including refurbished heads and carburetors, an upgraded ignition, and the installation of a new clutch, tie rods, ball joints, Bilstein shocks, washer pump, window regulator, starter, and speedometer cable. The seller states the condition of the transmission has led them to believe it was rebuilt, although no supporting documentation was found. Additional service items from the past month include a full fluid service, an engine valve adjustment with both upper and lower valve cover gaskets replaced, and the installation of a new Dansk muffler and mounting hardware. The seller notes that the engine and transmission serial numbers match the original Kardex which is provided for reference in the gallery.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a window sticker, sales literature, a Kardex, and a host of documentation.

Carrera chain tensioners cannot be installed on this engine without replacing the chain housings and covers from a later model. The best insurance are guards on a set of new tensioners. They work. I've personally tested them on a 73T that experienced a collapsed tensioner.

@Jimbo1907 for what's its worth I've owned and restored a lot of swb cars. And this is one of the best running and driving examples I've been around. Starts right up. Runs super smooth. Great power ect.

@Jimbo1907 I need to correct my statement. Carrera chain tensioners WERE NOT installed during the engine rebuild. I have attached an image to the gallery for any clarification.

  • bigvitty4u (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

@Urelfer thank you yes I am aware of how they were clocked from the factory. And I appreciate your knowledge and input.

@defenderdelray this is from my mechanic just now and he's installing new spark plug today as well

Photos of compression gauge in the gallery

The compression results are pretty much perfect on this engine. Pictures of gauge readings are in order from cylinder 1-6.

It's still your car and you can do with it whatever you want. But you can see that they look wrong, right? All 1967 911's have been delivered from the factory with the wipers on the right side, Porsche has changed it later to the driver's side.

  • bigvitty4u (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

    @Urelfer that's a matter of preference

  • Urelfer (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

The wipers are parked on the wrong side, that's why they look so akward.

@mhoch212 please familiarize yourself with the how it works section. Exposing the reserve is damaging to both the buyer and the seller. Many people lose a great car they can actually own because they’re trying to play the guessing game on reserve. Bid according to your evaluation and you just may be surprised as to what you can buy the car for.

Lovely car. Were the timing chain tensioners updated when the engine overhaul was done? thank you.

  • Slim_Chance 3 months, 1 weekago

SWB cars are the ticket. 5 minutes under the front end to level it out. ;) FWIW, alloy wheels are listed on the Kardex. These are some of the best driving 911's, being light and agile. GLWA

Hello everyone!! Welcome to this auction..

Car has undergone a great deal of improvements since the last time it was listed here on PCar.

Something incredible if the dash is the last short wheel base metal dash my friend Tony Garcia of the legendary Autobahn Interors had. It's absolutely stunning.

The paint shaped up amazingly and so many other improvements made.

    Enjoy and happy bidding!!!
