The Ford Shelby GT500 debuted in 1967 as the high-performance version of the Mustang created by a collaboration between Ford and racing legend Carroll Shelby, powered by a 428ci Ford Police Interceptor V8 producing 355 HP fitted with an aluminum mid-rise intake manifold and dual 4-barrel Holley carburetors, a 4-speed manual top loader transmission, front disc brakes, stiffened front springs, an upgraded anti-roll bar, and Gabriel shock absorbers. This particular example is chassis # 01211, one of 2048 GT500s ordered in 1967, and one of only 29 fastback models finished in Wimbledon White with Acapulco Blue racing stripes and a Parchment white interior. Selected options include the Extra Cooling Package, the Courtesy Light Group, a fold-down rear seat, power steering, power front disc brakes, the Interior Decor Group, a heavy-duty battery, and a Thermactor exhaust system, though it was removed by Shelby American before delivery. It was said to have been delivered new to Reynolds Motors of Syracuse, New York on October 26th, 1967, and remained with the original owner until 1969, when it was tucked away for 30+ years by the father of the first owner. The second owner acquired the vehicle in the late 90s, where it subsequently was treated to a rotisserie restoration that was completed in 2002 at a reported cost of over $200k. It currently is under the care of its third owner, who purchased it in 2022, and is said to have only traveled around 700 miles since the restoration. Now showing approximately 28,475 miles on the odometer, this investment-grade 1967 Shelby GT500 is being offered at auction by the seller based out of Iowa.
The exterior is finished in Wimbledon White (M) with Acapulco Blue over-the-top racing stripes and GT500 rocker stripes, The exterior was reportedly refinished in its factory color scheme during the restoration and is said to retain all original panels, mostly original hardware, and original glass, except for the windshield. The GT500 features an extended nose cap, an elongated hood, a ducktail rear spoiler, tail light panel, trunk lid, fender extensions, and quarter panel air scoops constructed of lightweight fiberglass. Other equipment includes front and rear chrome bumpers, center-mounted high beams, a functional hood scoop, Cobra badging, hood pins, a fender-mounted antenna, and integrated dual exhaust outlets. The seller reports hairline cracks deep in the crevice above the passenger door and near the rear GT500 badge. The optional 15x7” Kelsey-Hays MagStar wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Comp T/A tires that were mounted in 2002 but have traveled less than 1000 miles since.
The interior features front bucket seats and a rear bench seat upholstered in Parchment vinyl, with a matching lower dash, and door panels, contrasted by a black upper dash and black carpeting, accented with brushed aluminum trim on the dashboard and door panels as equipped by the Interior Decor Group. GT500-specific details include a two-point padded roll bar, Shelby American door sill guards, an upgraded 140-mph speedometer, an 8,000-rpm tach, Stewart-Warner gauges indicating oil pressure and amperage mounted under the center of the dashboard, FoMoCo/Cobra seatbelts, and Cobra badging on the passenger side dash and steering wheel horn button. Amenities consist of a heater with a defroster, a fold-down rear seat, dual roof-mounted courtesy lights, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an AM/FM radio. The seller reports a minor crack in the back seat.
The GT500 is powered by a 428ci Police Interceptor V8 with die-cast aluminum valve covers and dual Holley 600 CFM four-barrel carburetors, which produces up to 355 HP and 420 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by a 4-speed top loader transmission which provides a 0-60 MPH acceleration time of just over 6 seconds and a top speed of 132 MPH. The GT500 was also equipped with a revised suspension, including stiffened front springs, heavy-duty rear leaf springs, an upgraded anti-roll bar, and Gabriel shock absorbers. This particular example was additionally ordered with front disc brakes, the Extra Cooling Package, and a Thermactor exhaust system that was removed by Shelby American prior to delivery. The seller reports that upon acquisition, the coolant was flushed, the oil was changed, and the engine’s hose clamps were replaced with period-correct Wittek clamps. The seller also notes that the underside of the vehicle shows very well with red oxide primer present.

About 10 years ago I had a chance to buy on for 125K I wanted to so bad, But at the time my company needed money into it, I wasnt doing as well as now and I just loved the car, It was midnight Blue with Ivory interior, Had a 427 replacement motor by the dealer with Duak 4 barrels, I have regretted not buying it every time I see one, Hind sight is always a brutal reality

There was no way this car was going for less than $300 and probably should have gone for $350-400. The buy now price of $305 is a bargain in my opinion. Brilliant car.

@Jthotrod The front end and trunk are original Shelby parts, I’m told the hood is possibly a reman. I’ve had several knowledgeable gentlemen tell me it’s yes or no, so I can’t say with 100% certainty on the hood.

@rhmoritz The car is matching numbers engine, trans and rear end. I know the 2nd owner through a friend and could likely get his contact information which I will do right now. Unfortunately, restoration documents have been misplaced between the 1st and 2nd owner, so I do not have those.
The first owner bought the car in New York with her husband and used her father as the co-signer. After they split a few years later, the father got the car and held it until the late 1990s when it was acquired by the 2nd owner, an older gentleman, in Houston, TX where it underwent restoration completed in 2002 and then was held in a private collection until 2022. It is also in the Shelby American Inc registry, where it was recorded with the 2nd owner. To my knowledge, the car hasn’t been tracked or raced, at least in the last 22 years or since it’s restoration. The car shows no signs it was raced or tracked previously either.
