The C3 introduced new styling and drivability to the early Chevrolet Corvette. Finished in Silverstone Silver, this 1968 C3 equips a 390 HP 427ci V8 engine with a 4-barrel carburetor. This example has been extensively cared for and benefits from a professional restoration and engine rebuild, along with various modifications including a custom side exhaust, Vette-Pack mufflers, a Dewitt cooling system, Bilstein shocks, and more. Originally a California car, this C3 has made its way to the East Coast where it is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.

The C3 generation Corvette was redesigned from its predecessor including a revised front fascia, a new headlight and taillight design, flush door handles, a T-top roof, and improved aerodynamics with a longer, wider, and heavier body. This Corvette was stripped to bare fiberglass, gel-coated, primed and painted with a two-stage PPG base and clear coat to restore its factory-correct Silverstone Silver finish. The original glass and registration sticker remain. The factory bumpers were professionally sanded and re-chromed to like-new condition, and the badges and lenses have been replaced with GM-licensed restoration parts. A set of 15” aluminum Rallye wheels include restored P02 hubcaps and Coker reproduction Firestone Wide Oval Radial tires with 3/8” redlines. The seller notes slight imperfections are present in the windshield along with minor stress cracks near the front headlight openings, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.

The driver is situated within a black leather interior with chrome accents. The door panels and headliner remain in very good condition, and an aftermarket dash pad, map pocket, and center console have been installed along with a carpet restoration in 2017. A Zora-Arkus Duntov leather steering wheel from Corvette America has been fitted and the factory steering wheel will accompany the sale. The original gauges and Delco AM/FM radio are reported to be working properly, while the air conditioning, heating, and driver’s side door switch to activate courtesy lighting are inoperable, and the wiper-override warning light was wired incorrectly to illuminate when headlights are activated. Details are discussed and explained in the videos below.

This C3 came factory equipped with a 427ci V8 engine with a Rochester 4-barrel carburetor, sending 390 HP to the rear wheels through a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. The identification stamping has diminished due to engine-block decking, and the engine is said to have been rebuilt with Crower parts along with the installation of a McLeod clutch, flywheel, and 3.70:1 rear end. The rear main seal was replaced in 2019, and the valve cover gaskets were replaced in 2021. A custom side exhaust was fitted with Vette-Pack mufflers, a Dewitt cooling system, and an aluminum radiator and electric fans. The heater core was intentionally left out of the rebuild and the seller notes that the suspension bushings are worn and make occasional creaking noises on slow turns. Detailed images are provided in the gallery, along with comprehensive videos below.

This sale will include a clean title.

    @MGHENDE I’ve owned many Corvettes. In the early 2000’s I had a LeMans Blue 1969 427/400, awesome in every way, right up until the heater core began to leak. Fixing it was a total fiasco….you have to tear apart the entire dash. When I found this ‘68 it already had no heater core. I thought that was interesting and when it was time to rebuild the motor I elected to leave it out. Simple as that. I live in NJ and the car basically hibernates from right after Thanksgiving to April. It was my goal to build a car that would be an easy to get along with driver with as few things that could go wrong as possible.

    Why was the heater core not reinstalled?

    I must say this is a very nice C3, unfortunately not enough space for this beauty, need to make some room So coming next in 2023 will be posting a low milage E36 95 M3 and possible a E39 M5. again, beautiful C3 GLWA.

    @dooscoop32 You're right. The funny thing is my man did the exact same thing on my '67. So I've got a '67 Silver Pearl and a '68 Silverstone Silver with all silver gills. The last vent should be black on the inside. The underside of the hoods on both cars is "Hotrod Black"...and I was hoping to use it to rectify that situation. Good eye!

    They forgot to paint the most rearward side fender vent on each side black to make it look like a real vent.

    @997turbojoe Thanks, Joe.
