Available for auction is this 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 W-30 Convertible finished in Saffron Yellow over a black vinyl interior. The 442 was introduced for the 1964 model year as an optional high-performance package for the Oldsmobile Cutlass in response to Pontiac’s successful GTO. The 442 would go on to become a standalone model from 1968 through 1971. This 1968 example is said to be 1 of 127 442 convertibles produced for the model year equipped with the high-performance W-30 package and 4-speed manual transmission. Having had four owners, this well-documented 442 underwent a comprehensive frame-off restoration approximately five years ago at a cost of over $100k and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
The 1968 Cutlass 442 can be identified by its unique rear bumper treatment with exhaust cutouts and polished exhaust tips. This 442 comes finished in Saffron Yellow with a black convertible soft top and black fender stripes. During the restoration, the car was stripped to bare metal and several body panels were replaced before it was refinished. Additional images are available in the gallery including photos documenting the restoration process. Details include 442 badging, a fender-mounted antenna, a single driver-side mirror, and W30-specific ram-air scoops beneath the front bumper. It rides on a set of 14” Super Stock wheels dressed in BFGoodrich Red Line tires.
The cabin is upholstered in black vinyl with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. The cabin was reupholstered during its restoration and features an AM/FM radio, a sports console housing the Hurst 4-speed shifter, 442 embroidered floor mats, lap belts, and roll-up windows. The seller confirms that all gauges and accessories remain functional.
Power comes from a 400 ci V8 engine which was rated at up to 360 HP when equipped with the W-30 package. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that both the original engine and transmission were rebuilt to factory specifications during the restoration and that fewer than 1,000 miles have been covered since.
This sale will include the owner's literature and a clean title.

@Edougherty @Edougherty; as a 442 fan (street raced a '66 L69), previous owner of a large muscle car dealership, and owner of over 50 442s (including over 10 W30s), most 442s did come with 3.42s. However, most W30s came with higher gears (3.91s, 4.33s, and even 4.66s) and M21 close-ratio transmissions. The substitution of 3.42s will make the car more streetable but only if a M20 wide ratio transmission was also substituted. The title will not show if the car is a W30; only the original Maroney or dealership sales slip will. Not throwing shade on your car; it looks like a nice one; but the difference in value between a regular 442 and the W30 makes verification important. If you can find those it would be helpful. I believe artichoke is correct. ‘68 W-30s had the W-30 painted on the front fender above the side marker lamp. With due respect the Hurst Olds debuted in 1968. Really nice Olds.
@DrT most of the W 30 came with 3: 42 gears. I the original title for the car.
3.42s are nice all-around gears but in my experience most W30s came with either 3.91s or 4.33s. Nice restoration and looks factory correct but any original paperwork verifying this to be a factory W30? Thanks.

No it is a W 30 package only. The Hurst Olds started on 1969.
