Available for auction is this 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback Eleanor tribute finished in Pepper Gray over a custom black vinyl interior. Known for its role in the cult classic film Gone In 60 Seconds, "Eleanor" is a 1967 Mustang fastback depicted as a Shelby GT500 with a custom body kit. This 1968 Mustang began its transformation into the Eleanor tribute we see here in July of 2015 and was completed in August of the following year. It features a full body kit, custom billet grilles, 17” American Racing wheels, a custom interior with bucket seats, a Hurricane air conditioning system, Kenwood and JL Audio speakers, and a 347ci Ford small block V8 paired with a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. Accompanied by an extensive collection of documentation, this Mustang is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Colorado, having covered just over 2k miles since its completion.

The design of the original “Eleanor” was created by Hot Rod illustrator Steve Stanford and brought to life by Chip Foose. This Mustang was originally finished in Candy Apple Red and was stripped to bare metal during its restoration before being finished in its current shade of Pepper Gray with black over-the-top and side stripes. The underbody was treated with Raptor liner and the cabin was lined with Lizard Skin sound deadening. The Eleanor body kit was sourced from Mustang to Fear of Rochester Indiana, and includes a custom front fascia with central fog lamps, a cowl hood, quarter panel and sail panel scoops, a rear lip spoiler, GT500 style tail lamps, and side skirts with integrated exhaust outlets. Additional details include a custom billet grill set, PIAA fog lights, hood pins, a polished fuel filler door, and GT 500 badging. It rides on a set of staggered-width 17” American Racing VN407 wheels with Toyo Proxes 4+ tires from 2016.

The cabin features dual front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl sourced from Mustangs to Fear. Black carpets line the floors, and the dashboard, door panels, and center console are wrapped in matching black vinyl with brushed aluminum trim. The seller notes that minor wear can be found around touchpoints and that the aluminum center console shows light scratches around the shift boot and window switches. Details include polished door sill plates, a three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, Cobra pedals, a Hurst shifter, Autometer Phantom gauges, power windows and door locks, a Hurricane air conditioning system, and a custom sound system with a RetroSound head unit and speakers by Knewood and JL Audio.

Power comes from a Prestige Motorsports Ford 347ci small block V8 engine. The engine features Forged I-beam rods, SRP forged coated pistons, Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads, Scorpion roller rockers, an Edelbrock Air Gap intake, and more. The rear wheels are driven by way of a Tremec 600 5-speed manual transmission fitted with a McLeod RST street twin clutch and a 9” rear end. Additional performance features include a Total Control Products suspension system, Wilwood 4-piston brake calipers and drilled slotted rotors, an E-Stopp push-button electric parking brake, and an Aero Stealth 16-gallon fuel tank. The seller has provided receipts documenting the restoration, which can be found in the gallery along with a Marti report and other documentation. Service is said to have included regular oil changes.

This sale will include a collection of documentation and a clean title.

@krobsklassics There was no issue with getting the vehicle titled in Washington as it currently is. The dash would need to be fully removed to confirm.

68' was first year of public VIN, it technically needs to be in dash to be legal/matter. You don't know for sure?

  • smirts (seller) 1 year, 1 monthago

@krobsklassics To my knowledge, the VIN tag on the dash is still present but covered by the new dash and new trim pieces. There is a VIN tag riveted to the driver door, please see image 96 in the gallery for the exact location!

  • krobsklassics (registered bidder) 1 year, 1 monthago

@collectorcars There are over $190,000 in receipts that are all included with the documentation for the build.

In terms of numbers matching, the powertrain is all new. The entire body is all original aside from the body kit.

  • collectorcars (registered bidder) 1 year, 1 monthago

Is this numbers matching? Other than the engine?

@TheGuesser All tires are dated 2016. It has a clean Washington title!

  • TheGuesser (registered bidder) 1 year, 1 monthago

Double checking that I seeing the tire date codes correctly. I think I see one from 2021, two from 2016 and one for 2015. Is this correct? Also, saw the Washington plates but Colorado location. Not sure if it matters but is it titled in Washington or Colorado? Beautiful ride!

@HemiSam The kit is fiberglass. This is fuel injected, it utilizes a Holley Terminator EFI 4BBL Throttle Body Fuel Injection System.

Are the body panels fiberglass? I'm thinking so but not familiar with the kit.

Is the engine F.I. or carbureted. Looks like a carburetor but these days F.I. is tricky to spot.

  • Trez63 (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

I don't care what you call it, that's a bitchin ride. Any videos you can post of it running and making some noise?

  • smirts (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@maj75 There are numerous articles out there around the specifics, but a takeaway from the recent lawsuit update: U.S. District Court for the Central District of California's ruling vacated copyright protections for the Eleanor cars. "Eleanor's make and model do not make it especially distinctive. Eleanor is not entitled to standalone copyright protection as a matter of law."

This build never went through any licensing process to become "Eleanor". Making this an Eleanor Tribute.

  • maj75 (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Shelby can’t license an “Eleanor” replica either. Shelby agreed to relinquish all rights under a settlement agreement with Ms Halicki.

  • maj75 (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Don’t use the name “Eleanor”. Ms. Halicki will sue.

  • smirts (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@collectorcars This is a C Code, there is an image of the Marti Report in the gallery with more information, as well. It is not an officially licensed Eleanor.

  • collectorcars (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@seller is this a C code car? do you have the Shelby license?

  • smirts (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Hello! Thanks for taking a look! As mentioned, there a is a large binder of information covering essentially the entire build, I'm happy to provide any specifics from there. Please let me know if any questions come up, I'll do my best to answer anything I am able to - I'll be checking in often to respond!
