Available for auction is an excellent and rare crankcase for a 1968 911 S, with the part number 4080318. This particular crankcase is a Type 901/02 sand-cast aluminum case, manufactured in August 1967. Originally prepared two decades ago as a spare for a racing engine, it was specifically designed for a 2.5L or 2.8L race engine or can be used for a spirited 2.7L option. 



Over the past twenty years, this crankcase has been meticulously preserved since its completion at the machine shop. Included in the sale is the original intermediate shaft type 0, perfectly fitting the crankcase.



The crankcase has been drilled to accommodate up to 97mm cylinders measured on the outside. It is worth noting that the 2.8 RSR has thinner cylinder walls designed to fit 97mm cylinders with a bore size of 92mm. Since its preparation, this crankcase has remained untouched and unused, carefully stored on a shelf, awaiting a prospective project. It has also served as a standby at the racetrack, ready to be utilized as a spare if needed.



A notable feature of this crankcase is its thoughtfully lightened design, achieved by shaving its underside, a common practice in old-school race engines. Typically, racing engines have either two engine coolers in the front or one large cooler. 



Internally, the case maintains standard measurements with no repairs, as the engine it was intended for had very few kilometers. However, a professional repair was carried out at the fan housing area due to an accidental drop during transport, resulting in a slight bend in one corner.     Excellent and rare crankcase for a lot of build options! We need more bids to meet the reserve and most of you guys know the prices of cases like this! You don't see too many of these clean good cases for sale these days, and high revving 2,5 L ST engine fits in many cars and is probably the most valuable hp for the money and is so fun to drive!

    The intermediate shaft is the original for the case.

    But if somebody likes to run thrust bearings for the Intermediate shaft so you are able to run steel gears I can provide that. Intermediate in the sale will work fine, it depends on the type of engine you are building.

    Hi Gents,

    Just let me know if somebody would like me to post the dyno test on a 2,5 L ST engine built on an Aluminum crankcase and Weber 46 with low and high manifolds to see the difference.

    A 2,5 L engine built with Weber 46 and twin-plug for racing and all the best parts as Centerlube Camshafts Original 906 Grid and much more.

    High manifolds 283 HP at 8000 RPM rev limit 8,300.

    Low manifolds 68 magnesium-modified and 12 mm insulator, 273 hp at 7500 RPM, and very nice torque and rev limit at 7,800 RPM. In my opinion, this is a great build for a rally, hotrod, and racing car!
