Marking the final model year of the original short-wheelbase 911, this Soft Window Targa is one of only 442 "S" versions produced for 1968 and came factory-finished in Light Ivory with equipment for the European market. It made its way to the United States via special order placed by Porsche Car Southeast, Inc, and delivered new to RBM of Atlanta. Under the care of its original owner for over 40 years, this example was eventually sold to Brumos Porsche in 2012 where it was treated to extensive refurbishment and restoration. Accompanied by original documentation and a numbers matching Porsche Certificate of Authenittcy, this rare 911S Soft Window Targa is now being offered for auction out of France.
This Targa comes finished in Light Ivory and is distinguishable as a 911S by the anodized aluminum rocker panels, wider bumper rubbing strips, and gold rear lettering. It features a removable roof panel and zip-out rear window which are both said to have been refurbished along with the 15” Fuchs wheels. The seller adds that a rust-preventative coating has been applied to the entire frame and undercarriage, and a few areas throughout the body have been professionally refinished. A black leather interior was equipped from the factory and the seats have been professionally restored along with the installation of new carpeting. The 1968 model year introduced newly styled instrumentation with black trim rings and white letting, and the 911S features additional oil pressure and oil level gauges compared to the entry-level 911. The seller adds that all accessories are working properly including the original Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio.
This 911S is equipped with an air-cooled 2.0-liter flat-six carbureted engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox that drives the rear wheels. The original engine is said to have been restored by Brumos Porsche in 2012 and features an oil-fed chain tensioner upgrade. Images of the drivetrain case stampings are provided in the photo gallery along with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity showing engine number 4080831 and transmission number 4280830.
This sale will include original sales documents and owner's manuals, a vintage California black license plate, a Porsche Certificate of authenticity, and a clean title.

@moezilla yes indeed car is ready for registration not a problem to have the WW transit plate, it has passed the French TUV with success

Does it by chance have current registration, or can you help with transit plates and WW certificate? It would be easier for me to drive it away for the 1600 KM journey over transport and logistics etc. I know of all the souvenir photo traps in Germany so it would be a compliant drive. At least it would be easier for you as you would just hand over the key and title.

Had one exactly like this in 1968. Was stolen got 8k from the insurance company. With that money bought and sold 15 Porsches for the next 50 years. What a car. Went 145 mph a few times

The Gearbox N° is 4080830 as same as on the COA.

@opener I will upload a video and some under engine shots tomorrow morning for your review, the engine is running very well, it has been rebuilt at some point by Brumos but unfortunately I don't have any receipts to support but I can see than the engine had some works done, it's fitted with hydraulic tensioners.
I already exported some cars to USA in the past and it's very straight forward process, shipping done via Le Havre in France then they have a few agents in USA depending of location, PA is an easy one, from Le Havre to New York and the car is more than 20 years old.
Any photos of the underside of the engine? Looks like it has a gasoline heater. How does the engine run? Videos would be helpful.
Do you know what is involved to bring this from France to Pennsylvania? This car qualifies as a antique in PA.
