This 1968 Porsche 912 Karmann Coupe is said to have been created by renowned builder and fabricator Rod Emory before it was sold to a customer who took delivery of the car in 2002. It features an Emory-built 2.0L flat-six racing motor with Weber triple-chock downdraft carburetors, Wiesco pistons, ported & polished heads, and 911S camshafts. The car was also modified with period-correct upgrades to maintain its vintage racing class status including Bilstein shocks, stainless-steel brake lines, a limited-slip differential, a through-chassis front sway bar, and a front-mounted oil cooler. This 912 was reportedly sold to a collector in Montana in 2007 and has remained part of a private collection since 2009 where it was professionally maintained by an in-house technician. Acquired by the seller in California about a year ago, this Emory-built 912 is now being offered publicly for the first time in 15 years.
This Coupe is finished in Tangerine with a contrasting yellow top stripe and matching headlight covers. It has been fitted with lightweight RS-style front and rear bumpers, dual Raydyot racing mirrors, hood-mounted rally lamps, rear windshield braces, racing numbers, sponsorship decals, an external kill switch, and lightweight Macrolon rear and side windows. It rides on factory late 1967 date-coded 15” steel wheels finished in silver with Pirelli CN36 tires (4922). Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been fitted with a roll cage and Kirkey racing seats along with safety harnesses, a vintage quick-release three-spoke steering wheel with a MOMO horn button, Rennline pedals and driver’s floorboard, a Seine gated shifter, a fire suppression system, a shift indicator light, and lightweight door panels with 911R-style pull straps and window lifts. The seller adds that all gauges are working properly, and the cockpit is well-suited for the road, racing, and rallying.
The air-cooled flat-six engine is said to have been built by Rod Emory and is based on a 2.0-liter 911L case which has been built to 911S specs. It features ported & polished race-optimized heads with “S" valves and heavy-duty springs, Wiesco pistons, "S" camshafts, Weber triple-choke downdraft carbs, solid billet aluminum mounts, and 1.5” exhaust headers connected to a Bursch 2-in 2-out RSR OE-style muffler. The fuel system includes a 12-gallon Enduro fuel cell with a Carter high-capacity racing pump and a Holley fuel pressure gauge. The oil system features a front-mounted Setrab racing oil cooler and internally braided stainless-steel lines. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The chassis also features stainless-steel braided brake lines, Bilstein shocks, Turbo tie rods, a through-chassis bladed front sway bar with adjustable drop links, and a 911S rear sway bar with reinforced brackets. The seller adds that the car has been diligently maintained by racers and collectors since 2002.

I’ve got seat time in this car and it’s setup really well. Really well doesn’t really do it justice. It’s a rod Emory built 911, the guy knows how to put these cars together and I love how this car drives. I’ve built a few swb cars in my time and, provenance asides, I don’t see how an individual gets to here without spending 150k+

Rod & I collaborated on the ‘55 Emory Special with the 1500cc Polo 911-4 engine which he built the chassis and body. It was a great project and managed to record a speed of 151.52 mph.

Speaking of historical photos a a nice photo of 808 is featured in an article by Bruce Bonder in the PCA August 2002 issue of "Nord Stern" region which is all about the about the Emory's.

Seller do you have anything to document the engine in the car now is the engine from Emory? Often these race cars blew up and have different engines. Since this car is missing many of the typical Emory bits and is basically a race car they did 20 years back it’d be nice to know the engine is still what they installed.

This is super--applicable here. Super-cool car, but just as importantly, a great seller with whom I have done multiple deals. A wealth of Porsche knowledge and experience and always discloses EVERYTHING he knows about the car. I would have zero worry or hesitation buying from him.

@rhmoritz - The door glass has been replaced by lightweight 911R style Perspex windows with leather straps. The Fresh air system is in tact. The Porsche 2.0 Litre flat 6 has headers and as such so there is no heating system as currently equipped.
Side door glass still intact? Heat and ventilation removed?
Adding a list of items that accompany the Porsche: A set of 4 15"x6" Fuchs, original steel front and rear bumpers and license plate panel, a single Bosch fog light (with Marshall lens protector) with horn grills, pair of H1 headlights, windhsield wiper arms (all of the above from the original Emory Build) Additional items include an H4 Headlight, blaupunkt radio, kneepad, and rare 911S glove box door. This can be seen in gallery image 229.

Adding correspondence with Rod Emory about the Porsche to the gallery along with photos he supplied of the 808 at the track. Speaking of which he has a nice anecdotal note about the number plate on the drivers door.
@franbar - Check with your sanctioning body regarding what class it fits as this was last classed in 2002-2003. It is set up to run in a class where 68 911s could run in period trim. Brakes are 911S. Not sure where you saw the Porsche needed several cranks to turn over, just took a few seconds to fire. Motor or any other mechanicals are not currently in need of a rebuild.
@Jet2jeff2 - The Porsche comes with a set of H4 Headlights that are available to replace the the yellow plastic racing blanks if that is preferred, the hood mounted rally lights are not wired but otherwise should be functional, all other lights function to spec. Engine, gearbox & clutch all function to spec, engine was fresh when delivered to MarkP in November 2002 and feels, looks and sounds fresh today. There are only 8 entries in the log book after he took delivery of the car and sometime after the last entry 0f 8/9-10/03 it ended up in a collection. From research MarkP's main race car was an Ex Dick Barbour 356! I tried to contact Mark but was not able to get in touch with him. What class is this certified to race in. I also noticed when It stated Up it took several Cranks. How many hours miles on motor?

@Jet2jeff2 - Yes, CA title in sellers name. No record of the fuel cel bladder having ben changed. FWIW it is not problematic at this time.

@rhmoritz - Thank you, sound in the video doesn't do justice! I have had communicated with Rod Emory and he replied enthusiastically that he built the car. I will post a link to a thread on Pelican by "Mark P" who bought the Porsche from the Emory's and documented his purchase and experience with the Porsche. The Porsche is titled and registered in California: windshield wipers and plates accompany the sale.

Any documents to validate the stated Emory build? Car is sans plates and wipers. Is the vehicle street legal? Title or Bill of Sale?
