Up for auction at NO RESERVE is this tangerine 1968 Porsche 912.  A gentleman who owned the car for almost 20 years recently traded in this 912 to a local dealership.  He enjoyed the car as a weekend driver.  The seller states the engine and transmission are in good running condition (see video).  The previous owner supplied receipts for an engine rebuild and other work performed shortly after purchasing the car in 2002.

The previous owner stated the car had a glass out re-spray approximately 15 years ago.  The car remains in presentable driver condition as shown in the gallery photos.  The longitudinals and body were inspected and are in very good shape.  The floorboards are original and will need to be repaired or replaced as the photos show.  Inspection also shows the front apron was repaired at some point.

The car has a black interior and is in wonderful original condition.  The original seats, door panels, and door pockets look fantastic as the photos show.  The dashboard and wood trim are also in good original condition.

This 912 is powered by a 1.6L 4-cylinder engine and is believed to be original to the car and is connected to a 5-speed transaxle.

Engine #:  109901 646/39
Transmission #: 1281518 902/02

Please note:  This is a NO RESERVE auction and will sell to the highest bidder.

In the early 1960s, Porsche introduced the 911 as a replacement for the 356. Porsche was concerned that the 911’s price increase would cause them to lose customers.  As a result, Porsche decided to introduce a new model, which used the new four-cylinder engine.  The Porsche 912 was born.

@Bern no rust on bottom of the doors, minimal leaks which is to be expected on a car of this age. Would not report any substantial leaks. thanks and good luck.

  • Bern (registered bidder) 5 years, 1 monthago

Does car have any rust at bottom of doors? Does engine leak oil? Thanks, Bern

  • 11JM (seller) 5 years, 1 monthago

@soxfan39 as with any car of this age I would go over the general items with a basic service at the very least like brakes , fluids etc. the car cosmetic issues I feel are noted very accurately in the gallery. The biggest item I can say needed here is the floor boards need to be tended to, weather you replace them with metal or fiberglass would be your choice but that would be the area that needs the most tending to. The motor runs very strong and sounds great. Hope this helps and good luck.

  • soxfan39 (registered bidder) 5 years, 1 monthago

@11JM Hi can you list the work you think the car needs?

  • 11JM (seller) 5 years, 1 monthago

@jjjjound thank you for that. Not trying to hide anything here, the car is a great running piece that will need some work, no secrets there. I am selling the car at no reserve and am not stopping anyone from seeing the car prior to bidding. My apologies on not being able to get any additional photos in time but I don't feel anything was left out of this description. Hoping this goes to a great home and this car will get the love it deserves. Should make someone very happy.

@Posrsr The ad states, “The previous owner stated the car had a glass out re-spray approximately 15 years ago.”

I’m not too sure what your concern is? This is 51 years old, and it’s not too uncommon for cars of this vintage to get repainted (due to their age).

@Posrsr hi happy to try and get some additional pics on Mon. I don’t believe that any rust was painted over. The paint job is over 15 years old so I would venture to say this car is as honest as it can be in that regard. If any heavy coverups were done they would be showing themselves by now

Really??? The ads states “ glass out respray” interested to hear your response.
Look, I wanna root for this venue. I’m just having a hard time, due to your listing and others like it. Your sale, not so much.

    @posrsr
I have no skin in the game here but you seem like you wanna knock the car to keep the price down and then bid on a no reserve auction. I read the listings and it was clearly listed as a driver with a 15 yr old repaint (probably not a concours level). Why say it was painted over damage. How do you know? Don’t be mean spirited. Asking questions is cool but these guys just started this last week. Unless you work for BaT, then I can see what your doing.

  • Posrsr (registered bidder) 5 years, 1 monthago

Amazing to me that the re-spray was done over all of the body damage and without even removing the engine grill. Can the seller provide information on the paint ? Who did it, when it was done, etc. It would also be beneficial to see pix of the inside of all the fenders with the wheels off, bottoms of both doors and close ups of all the blistered areas that have been painted over.

Just confirmed with my mechanic, the car has the 1.6 liter engine

  • 11JM (seller) 5 years, 1 monthago

    @thecubester yes I believe it is the 2.0 L
I sent the receipts to Pcarmarket and they will hopefully be up this morning. Location is in the ad. You can message me if you would like to see the car prior to bidding. Good luck!

@Dohron there is no engine number

  • Chipper (registered bidder) 5 years, 1 monthago

For a dedicated Porsche site there are some amazing errors so far. Casting number listed as the engine number when its actually a blank replacement case? Engine listed as original? Wood dash listed as original on a 68, all very odd.

  • thecubester (registered bidder) 5 years, 1 monthago

    Few questions for seller:

    1) Where is the car located?
    2) Can the receipts for the rebuild and any other major work performed be posted to the gallery?
    3) Can any additional photos and descriptions of any other rust, paint bubbling, etc., be provided? The floor pan shots were helpful, but some gallery images seem to show possible exterior / paint issues beyond that.
    4) I assume this is just an error in the description, but it’s a 1.6 liter, not a 2.0 liter, right?

    Thanks!

Engine # , Thanks for the picture but believe that shows the casting # and engine type.
