The Triumph TR250 was introduced to the U.S. market in 1967 as a carbureted version tailored for American consumers. This 1968 example underwent refurbishment in California during the 1980s, refinished in white with a matching Surrey top over black vinyl upholstery. Since being acquired by the selling dealer in 2023, it has been fitted with a PerTronix II electronic ignition system, replaced the ignition coil, spark plugs, plug wires, and fuel filter, and conducted a fuel tank drain and engine oil change. Paring an HVDA 5-speed manual transmission to its 2.5-liter inline-six, this example is now being offered for auction out of Arizona.

As part of the reported body-off restoration, this Triumph has been refinished in white with silver racing stripes across the front hood and fenders. Under prior ownership, a white Surrey top comprising aluminum center and rear sections was fitted. Equipment includes dual side mirrors, chrome bumpers, a trunk-mounted luggage rack, a quick-release fuel cap, quad exhaust tips, and American Racing Silverstone 15” magnesium wheels with black-painted centers, polished lips, and simulated knock-off center caps. It rides on Vredestein Hitrac tires measuring 195/65 up front & 205/65 out back. Additionally, the suspension has been lowered with aftermarket springs. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin offers bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl with perforated inserts and white piping. Interior features include a wooden dashboard panel, Smiths instrumentation, a Mountney wood-rimmed steering wheel, three-point seatbelts, and a heater. Entertainment is provided by a Sony CD head unit coupled with Polk speakers, with the radio being repaired. In the accompanying photo gallery, minor imperfections including a tear in the passenger seat are evident.

Beneath the bonnet, the 2.5-liter inline-six engine has been paired with a 5-speed manual transmission sourced from an HVDA Toyota and fitted under previous ownership. Equipment includes triple Weber carburetors, an MSD 6AL ignition controller, and a TriumphTune finned valve cover. The engine reportedly underwent a comprehensive rebuild in the 1980s, receiving upgrades including a 305-duration camshaft, ported cylinder heads, exhaust headers, a double-roller timing chain, an oil cooler, a spin-on oil filter adapter, and a larger radiator, along with a manually switched electric cooling fan. In mid-2023, the water pump was replaced. An Ansa exhaust system was also installed under previous ownership. The selling dealer fitted a PerTronix II electronic ignition system, replaced the ignition coil, spark plugs, plug wires, and fuel filter, adjusted the clutch throw, and conducted a fuel tank drain and engine oil change.

This sale will include a clean title.

@arnouxt...Of course & apologies for the late reply. I drove to the shop this morning as I can see what @delanodp is referring to and I understand how that conclusion can be drawn. I took a magnet around to the areas in question and found that it stuck with uniform attraction in all areas. I will post photos shortly. As with any 50+ year old car, I'm sure it's seen its share of drama over the years, but not having a detailed previous history I can't pass judgment. What I can truthfully say is, with its many modifications from stock, it's not a candidate for the councours field. This is a car you get in, drive and enjoy the pure motoring pleasure it will provide.

@stablescollection, could you address the concerns expressed in the previous comment regarding bondo?

  • delanodp (registered bidder) 7 months, 2 weeksago

@StablesCollection Thanks. In picture 20, 21 on the inside (rolled edge) of the front fenders and zoom in on picture #69 (left rocker) there appears to be unfinished body putty (lumpy) surfaces. These are tell-tale signs of body filler. If you have no history of bodywork or steel work anywhere on the car then its hard to assess from photos.

@delanodp...Good question. The very lightweight surrey top panel does indeed have a black vinyl headliner giving it a consistent, finished look from the inside. I just posted a picture. I also just walked around the car with a magnet and it stuck to all lower areas...under rear bumper, rockers, etc. so no obvious evidence of large areas of bondo or filler. Thanks!

Is there a headliner inside the removable surrey top section? Any history on the body and work done on it? Any bondo anywhere on the car? Tx.

Good morning to all & welcome to our auction for this unique little TR.

@Zoomnbyu...It is definitely a 5-speed that shifts smoothly & with precision.

@zollerm...We will get pics of the soft top today and post asap. I don't have any dyno sheets on the motor so I have no idea how much horsepower it's making. I will say this though...it sounds fantastic, handles like a go kart and is a blast to drive so I was never concerned about the HP number. Thanks for the question.

  • Zoomnbyu (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

Is it a four or five speed?

  • zollerm (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

May we see some pics with the soft top installed? Horsepower? Thank you.
