This 1968 Volkswagen Beetle was sold new from Wolff Motors of San Diego, California, and has remained in the seller’s family for the last 40 years. It has been refinished in its original Savannah Beige color and modified with Porsche 914 wheels, a roof rack, lowered suspension, a custom steering wheel, an EMPI shifter, a RetroSound audio system, and a 1,600cc single-port engine with dual Weber carburetors, an oil cooler, and ceramic coated headers and exhaust. This classic Beetle is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of Arizona accompanied by its original black California license plates and dealer plate frames.

This Beetle was refinished in its original color of Savannah Beige under prior ownership and the front end was repainted about 5 years ago following a small damage. The car has been fitted with a roof rack and features chrome trim and bumpers, dual polished mirrors, running boards, pop-out windows, a fender-mounted antenna, and 15” Baby Fuchs wheels from a Porsche 914 2.0. It rides on Nanking front tires from 2011 and Ontai rear tires from 2020. A stock VW steel wheel is mounted in the trunk. The seller describes the car’s paint to be above average given its age and notes a few rust spots are present on the bottoms of the doors as well as some dents on the front apron and the leading edges of the rear fenders. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is lined with grey carpeting and features custom low-back bucket seats trimmed in tan cloth and leatherette upholstery with matching door panels and a rear bench seat. Accessories include a custom wood-rimmed three-spoke NRG steering wheel with a custom machined adaptor, black and tan Coco floor mats, Wolfsburg-crested lap belts, an EMPI shifter with reverse lockout, a bamboo wicker under-dash tray, and a fire extinguisher mounted below the passenger seat. A custom sound system has also been installed featuring a RetroSound stereo with MP3, iPod, and AM/FM capabilities paired with a handheld remote as well as a 3-way speaker behind the front grille, a 12" subwoofer, and two 6” X 9” speakers mounted under a custom rear parcel shelf, all powered by a 40-watt amplifier. The seller notes some wear is present as well as signs of aging on the fabric upholstery. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

Under prior ownership, the car’s original 1,500cc flat-four was replaced with a larger 1,600cc single-port engine which has been upgraded with an enlarged “doghouse” fan, an oil cooler, dual Weber carburetors, and ceramic coated headers and exhaust. The suspension has been lowered and the rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller notes the second-gear synchro is worn and shifting into that gear is made easier by double-clutching.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, a battery charger, some documentation, original California license plates, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thanks for your interest in the car!  The car has been in the family for ~40 years, 15 in my care. With all of the upgrades to the car, they were all done to make it "bullet-proof"!  Runs strong, all-day fun, ready to go!”

@geb78 Thanks for your inquiries. Unfortunately, I do not have any pics of the front damage prior to the corrected body work. It was a very slight right front fender bender. The bodyshop was able to utilize the original German fender, so no cheesy replacement piece. I don't currently have a pic of the frunk with the spare tire removed, but am happy to snap one for you, no problem!

Do you have any pictures of the front end prior to repaint showing the damage? Also, any pictures of the frunk with the spare tire removed? Thanks
