The mid-sized Chevelle was produced by Chevrolet from 1964 through 1978 and was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. This second-generation 1969 example comes finished in white over a black vinyl interior and was acquired by the seller in 1996 and is said to have been regularly driven and serviced since. It has been equipped with a 396 c.i. V8 engine sourced from a 1967 example and comes paired with a Turbo-hydramatic 3-speed automatic transmission. This Chevelle is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.

The second-generation Chevelle received an elongated wheelbase, while the 1969 model year offered updated styling including a new grille, quad-headlights, a slotted bumper with parking lights, larger vertical tail lights, and smaller side marker lighting. This example is said to have been refinished in its current shade of white with black striping approximately 10 years ago, at which time surface rust was addressed and the bumpers were replaced. The seller notes a couple of quarter-size rust bubbles on the front left fender. Additional images can be found in the gallery. It rides on a set of 14” Rallye-style wheels dressed in older tires.

The cabin features black leatherette spanning the front bucket seats, rear bench trimmed, dashboard, and door panels. The seller reports that the cabin remains in good overall condition aside from a few imperfections and a missing vinyl ashtray cover. Amenities include a heater, roll-up windows, and lap belts. The eight-track player is currently inoperable.

Power comes from a 396 c.i. V8 engine which was reportedly sourced from a 1967 Chevelle. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a Turbo-hydramatic 3-speed automatic transmission. Notable service items under the care of the seller are said to include new brake lines, a new radiator, and regular oil and filter services.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: "Thanks for checking out my Chevelle. I've really enjoyed owning this car because of how much fun it is to drive and because it's a piece of American automotive history. The car always gets positive reactions from young and old. I believe the original color was Cortez Gold, and there are a few cosmetic fixes to be done but only if the new owner wants to."

    I aplogize to the seller for my previous comment; the 138... VIN prefix ended in 1968 (1964-1968 only) for a factory SS. Mea culpa; gettin' old...

    Tried to research the vin on VIN Decoder and it was not found... There are several vin locations - One is on the driver's side front dashboard looking down from outside the windshield area. Can you take a picture please. Thx

    Thanks for your questions. Sorry for not responding sooner. I was travelling yesterday.
    According to my research, Chevy dropped the SS model number in 1969, and made it an option package on Malibu and Deluxe 300. My car has correct interior (all vinyl) with SS badging, along with exterior markings, double-domed hood and rear black panel with SS emblem. As stated in the listing, The engine is a real 396 but from a 1967 Chevelle. This is confirmed by the cylinder head casting number on the engine which is 3909802. The engine code contains the suffix "ET", which designates a 396 ci V-8 4 bbl 325 hp, Turbo Hydra-matic automatic transmission (no A/C).
    Not mentioned in the listing is that the 4 bbl carburetor is an Edelbrock. The wheels are 15 inch, not 14.
    Thanks again.

    As everyone is asking is this a tribute car? Is the transmission a TH 400 or a 350?

  • Mentoring1 (registered bidder) 4 monthsago

    Is this a true Chevrolet SS Chevelle or Chevrolet Malibu?

  • DrT (registered bidder) 4 monthsago

    @Jbrown1776 136...VIN = Malibu; 138...VIN = SS396.

    Nice looking Chevelle, but did it start out life as an SS-396 or a Malibu?
