Produced by the Mercury division of the Ford Motor Company, the first-generation Mercury Cougar was offered as a more refined and upscale counterpart to the Ford Mustang. For the 1969 model year, the Cougar received an enlarged 351ci V8 engine as standard along with straight-lined bodywork in a transition toward “Coke bottle” styling. This example has been treated to a nut & bolt restoration by specialists the O’Hare brothers along with modified bodywork including color-matched trim, a fully customized interior, and more. Completed at a cost of well over $100k, this restomod is now being offered for auction out of North Carolina.

Refinished in metallic red with a black convertible soft top, this Cougar has undergone a nut & bolt restoration by the O’Hare brothers and was modified to include custom integrated bumpers, paint-matched trim, and aftermarket 18” Billet wheels wrapped in new tires. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin has been completely customized with black vinyl upholstery and a reconfigured dashboard. Hidden door handles are placed beneath the dashboard and a vintage air conditioning system has been fitted. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.

Power is derived from a 351ci V8 engine modified with fuel injection and a mild camshaft. Additional modifications include extensive chrome-finished engine compartment trimming, shaved stock towers with an aftermarket suspension system, 4-wheel power disc brakes, and an aftermarket exhaust. The seller adds that an oil change was recently carried out, and a binder with invoices totaling over $100k will accompany the sale.

This sale will include a clean title and a host of documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “History binder on the car goes back to the 1970’s. It was a very nice Florida car before the restoration, which is still seen evident in all factory spot welds. This is an amazing car. It makes for the ultimate Cougar Convertible. The fabrication done on this car is amazing.  You will not be disappointed! See it in person and you will not let this one get away! Nut & Bolt Restoration.

Just in time for Christmas!! Put a bow on this Santa’s Sleigh and your wife will love it!! The finish on this car is a 10. People go crazy at gas stations when you stop. It drives better than a brand new Cougar ever did. And turns are flat with the coil overs and rack and pinion suspension. Modified to enhance everything cool about a 69’ Cougar!
