1969 Porsche 911T Karmann Coupe

Now up for auction is this custom street-legal 1969 Porsche 911T 2.0 race car.  Based on a 1969 Karmann Coupe, this 911T was transformed into a race car during the 1990s and saw great success in PCA, VRG, HSR, and SVRA racing events up until 2011.  In 2012, this example was brought to the 901 Shop to undergo extensive refurbishment and upgrades including new fuel, braking, suspension, and electronic systems, a full respray, and a rebuild of the 2.0 L flat-six engine with 911S pistons and cams.  A highly competitive air-cooled racer that can be enjoyed both on and off the track, this 911T underwent a recent refresh by Carrera 6 Racing and is now being offered for auction by its seller in New York.

During its time at the 901 Shop in 2012, this 911T was completely refinished in a silver metallic color along with the installation of lightweight 911R-style bumpers and a lightweight windshield wiper system.  The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity shows the original color to have been Champagne Yellow and the body of this example is said to be in very good condition with only a few repairs said to have been performed on the original rust-free pan.  New Bosch H4 Euro headlights were installed recently and this 911T rides on painted 16” Fuchs wheels that come dressed in BFGoodrich G-Force R1 tires.

Inside, the cabin has been mostly stripped and optimized for racing with the installation of a full roll cage, a fire suppression system, and a MOMO steering wheel.  Other features include period correct sport bucket seats, easy access buttons and switches, lightweight inner door panels, and a 901 Shop Short Shift Kit with lockout.  A new headliner was also installed by the 901 Shop in 2012.

This 911T is equipped with its original 2.0 L flat-six engine which was rebuilt by the 901 Shop in 2012 with overhauled cylinder heads as well as 911S pistons and cams.  A new clutch and flywheel were also installed during this time along with a new clutch cable tube, throttle kit, wiring harness, and fuel system including a new surge tank, pumps, regulators, filters, fittings, and lines. Sending power to the rear wheels is a numbers matching 5-speed 901 manual gearbox upgraded with custom gear ratios, a limited-slip differential, and Wevo mounts.  The suspension was overhauled with a 901 Shop front sway bar, Elephant rear sway bar, Bilstein RSR-spec struts and shocks, Elephant poly bronze bushings, and Monoball trailing arm bushings.  Within the last year, this 911T was brought to Carrera 6 Racing for a thorough refurbishment including fuel system cleaning, rebuilt carburetors, and repair to the steering linkage.  A new MSD 6AL ignition system has also been installed recently along with a Dansk center sport muffler in matte black, and this 911 is said to be in turnkey driving condition, just waiting to be enjoyed.

This sale will include a clean Florida title.  Whether you are looking for your next track competitor or a visceral air-cooled outlaw to be enjoyed on the streets, this 1969 911T is sure to satisfy.

As usual, @DriverM offers a car with obvious intrinsic personality. It appears solid, with a racing build that's well sorted and well thought out. There's no better sound than a wound-up. well-tuned 2.0L, as the great video here shows. With straight pipes, I bet the little old lady with the sound gun at Lime Rock would NOT be pleased. GLWTA.

I've seen this car in person a few years ago and considered buying it at that time. At the time the interior was totally race car. It is exactly as described here. This is a hard edged hot rod / track 911. You can't get this kind of experience in a backdated 911 with a 3.6. Don't let the fact that it is a single plug 2 liter fool you into thinking it has no motor, its light, toss able, and delivers fun at speeds that won't get you arrested or killed. In the hands of the right driver, it will chase down much bigger cars on track. 901 Shop is the expert in building 2 liters and with the exception of Klub Sport it is the go to shop for this type of motor. A few weekends of attention and this car could be even better. Good luck!

@porschefan1 It now has period correct sport seats and a new street friendly Dansk sport exhaust.

  • porschefan1 1 year, 4 monthsago

This seems like a well put together track car with a longstanding racing history. I saw this car on BAT when it was bid to $50k in June 2019. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1969-porsche-911-11/ Any new modifications since the last time it was listed? GLWTA.

@Roma Hello. Yes. It is street legal and will be sold on a free and clear Florida title. It does not have directionals currently. It's also a push button start with a cut off switch.
The car has attitude and a feeling of purpose. It's very cool and an attraction wherever I take it.

  • Roma (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

I may have missed it but I assume the car is street legal, or only minor mod’s necessary to make it so?

  • DriverM (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@hamberger Will shoot more photos. The exhaust was just getting installed in those photos. It's brand new.

  • hamberger (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@DriverM can you add more pictures of the car's interior to showcase all modifications e.g. in the back area; Also what's going on with the exhaust in pictures 76 - 78 is it not attached/fitting?

  • DriverM (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@scuderia Sorry. No track footage and I save spirited driving for the track. I'll try to get some operational video.

  • scuderia (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Nice looking 911. The video does a good job of highlighting the exhaust. Any chance of a video on how the car actually works? Any track footage or spirited road driving?

  • DriverM (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    @DriverM Sorry......The 901 Shop not 911 Shop

  • DriverM (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@hamberger There is no rust. I believe there may have been rust repairs in the past but the body and floor are straight and solid with no indications of any accident history. I have many receipts and will try to get additional receipts from 911 Shop for the engine rebuild.

  • hamberger (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@DriverM did the car have any accidents and is there any frame damage? Is there any rust on the car or rust repair? Are you able to share any receipts and further details on the engine rebuild? Thanks!
