For the 1969 model year, significant advancements were introduced to the 911 series including a new long-wheelbase platform as well as the debut of the 911E model which was positioned above the base 911T and featured a flat-six engine with Bosch mechanical fuel injection. By strategically moving the rear wheels backward by 2 inches, Porsche aimed to enhance the car's stability at high speeds by achieving a more balanced weight distribution. This 1969 Porsche 911E is one of just 858 Targa examples for the model year, and is among even fewer to have been equipped with the removable soft window option. It was acquired by the seller from California in 2017 and imported to Czechia, Europe, where it underwent a complete nut-and-bolt cosmetic and mechanical restoration spanning 3 years to completion in 2022. Retaining its factory combination of Ossi Blue over tan upholstery, this 911E is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Czechia accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
As part of the restoration including bodywork and a refinish, this 911E Targa has been painted in its factory-specified color of Ossi Blue (6803), an uncommon shade exclusively offered between 1968 and 1969. Equipment includes a silver Targa roll bar, a removable roof panel and plastic rear window, chrome trim and door handles, rubber bumper moldings, a polished driver-side mirror, anodized gold rear model lettering, and a single exhaust outlet. It rides on 15” Fuchs wheels in a black and satin silver finish with new Michelin XWX 185/70 VR15 tires. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been reupholstered in tan leatherette contrasted by a black dashboard and dark grey carpeting. Accessories include a four-spoke steering wheel, a vintage Blaupunkt pushbutton radio, manual window rollers, a quartz clock, a heater, and a locking glove box. The seller adds that the VDO instrumentation has been professionally rebuilt, and the odometer reading shows just 10 miles to have been driven since the restoration was completed.
This 911E is equipped with its original air-cooled 2.0-liter flat-six engine featuring mechanical twin-row Bosch fuel injection and a capacitive-discharge ignition system. Up to 140 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. Standard equipment for the 911E includes four-wheel disc brakes and self-leveling hydropneumatic front struts. The seller adds that the engine was completely rebuilt as part of the recent restoration, which also incorporated the installation of new Mahle pistons & cylinders, a new Dansk exhaust system & heat exchangers, and upgraded hydraulic chain tensioners. A host of service documentation will accompany the sale, and no outstanding maintenance items have been reported.

With a car this nice I would do air freight which is around 20k, cheap peace of mind. Once in the USA the title will need to be translated to English and a vin verification depending on the state. That's impacting my offer

I have had two soft window Targas. Operating the rear window zipper in cold weather is a NO NO!

BarryLe: I would be happy if the car sells here today. And I understand your concerns. Every time I bought cars in America, I paid the seller, sent a freight forwarder to the them, and had it shipped by sea to Europe. So I have no experience with an escrow service. However, I'm not opposed to it at all.

Pcarmike: We have bought this porsche in California in 2017. That's how it got to Czechia, or Czechoslovakia, if you prefer :-)
We have a huge fan base over here. And many P cars are being restored here, too. After all, the old Dr. Porsche was born near Liberec, about 100 km from Prague. And until the beginning of the war he and his son Ferry were Czechoslovak citizens, before Hitler gave them German citizenship for obvious reasons.
The VIN number can be seen on top of this auction and on many of the photos, title, CoA etc.

If I am the winning bidder, how do I secure my money until the car which is in Prague arrives in Florida. Do we use an escrow agent to hold the funds until the car arrives? beh911 I stand corrected for this example, your correct this example was delivered late in 1968.
The examples I'm speaking of were the very last of the 23 I believe is the number of soft window 911's and 912's that were delivered in 1969, that's when the US DOT mandated rear seat defeats starting in January of 1969.
Once again my mistake your example is not one of these final examples .
I'm looking at the Kardex for this car. It was shipped to Porsche Car Southeast, Inc, which was essentially Brundage Motor Cars (Brumos) in Jacksonville. Rechungs date of 12/18/68. It is two VINs away from a Golden Green example also shipped to Brumos.
This car is not a European car, it is not a Mexican market car, it is not a Canadian car. There are other examples with rear seats, yet most did not have them.
If anyone would like to go down the rabbit hole, please look at the thread mentioned below on Early S.
There are currently 60-70 MY69 cars that are documented from the factory as SWT. Not 12, not 18, not 13, or whatever myth has perpetuated on the internet. Again, I wish the seller good luck with the sale and hope buyers find this information useful
@beh911, the 1969 soft windows 911 or 912's that were shipped to the handful of US dealers were all rear seat deletes, keep in mind there were only 22 or 23 of them total, there were a couple that were shipped to Mexico and to Canada that were not rear seat deletes this example obviously is one of those.
FWIW, this car was a US market car. I know because I researched the long wheelbase soft window targa (SWT) cars extensively a decade ago on Early S and started a thread on them. With exhaustive combing of all 69 kardex (ices?), it was not always the case that the rear seat delete came with the car or or was called out on the kardex. Well, we haven't opened the rear window because of the outside temperatures. It was quite cold and we feared the plastic window might get hurt. We try to open it tomorrow and I'll post some pictures.
Muf911: I would also like to see pictures of the soft window folded down and under its cover. Can you do that?
Muf911: As confirmed by “roblee”, the soft window has been poorly installed. I have seen other restored cars and original cars where the rear window fit much better. Can you commit to improving this rear window fit to the winning bidder? I love the car but I have not bid because of this.

As a third comment. Indeed this example is one of the rare production examples, the rarest was the 1969 912 Soft windows eleven produced all were rear seat deletes and even more rare were the ten 1969 912 factory electric Sunroofs
Couple of observations here. The installation of the replacement soft window is poorly fitted should be much tighter at the corners with no wrinkles. Secondly this example must have been a European delivery example because all 69 soft windows slated for the US had a rear seat delete due to a US safety mandate that no passengers could be able to sit in the rear seats due to the soft window potentially being a safety hazard for the rear passengers.
The wheels are original deep six fuchs. The seats did not come with headrests.

@DriverM yes it can be arranged. Of course we can store the car till spring. I would just recommend you to see it in person after purchase. It’s now like new, absolutely clean everywhere. It’s only driven a few miles after the restoration. You can put it in a living room as it is :-).
It will need some running in. It’s not recommended to take it to a highway and drive if fast right away.

This is actually a second Soft Window Targa that we've restored. The other one was an ivory 1967 911 that is currently on display in the TOP Mountain Crosspoint museum in the Alps (https://www.crosspoint.tirol)
This museum burned down couple years ago. After it's revival the owners tried to find new exhibits and our old targa is one of them.
As far as I remember the rear soft window was replaced on the other targa and the new reproduction was difficult to fit. This one is much better fitting.

@BarryLe: The seat belts are currently not installed. They were not mandatory prior to 1970.
If the buyer wishes to have them, we can retrofit them. It's an easy task, the mounting points are there.
I'm not sure if the car came with any belts when we got it. I'll search through the archive.
Anyway, they surely were not automatic in 1969.
Regarding the soft window, it's the original part. Only the transparent section was replaced.
In my book this is good, we have renovated 3 Targa Softys, I suppose there is a renovated original Targa cover rear and roof, and they need to be put on and taken by several times until they find their shape, they were made by Porsche, look on other renovations sold on BAT, this renovation has a completely other level of work, clean and tidy and that they have not saved on costs, the right material in the right places, but this a question for those who renovated, but this is one of the best I sean on actions at BAT and Pcarmarket and other places.

I need some Targa soft window experts here. I have seen several other soft window Targas that were restored to national concours show standards. My recollection is the soft window installation on those shows cars was much cleaner and neater than the soft window installation in this car. Can anyone chime in here? Otherwise, a beautiful restoration.

What a wonderful renovation, and then this color combination wow! E-Model is the best choice for 2.0 L, since 69 both S and E with MFI were largely directly from the race track, and there is not often a car like this with its original MFI setup is for sale, from 1970 forward. They were so-called smog pumps, so back in the day this MFI often disappeared to race cars.
One of the best renovations I have seen here at Pcarmarket, can't be much better! This will go high in price I think, just amazing how much work you guys were putting into the car! Just as new, as a 54-year-old car!
Looks like a renovation where the shop has not left anything out or saved on costs! A 150K ++ renovation and 3 hard years for the owner to wait! just amazing work! and cool that the car is restored in the Czech Republic which is known for its engineering skills as Ferdinand Porsche was born there and is one of many skilled engineers!
@bertsboat- i’ve got a great shipping provider in the UK. Have shipped numerous cars with them, including a beautiful 356 outlaw. We always use roro to Brunswick and have never had any problems. Also jave a great customs broker in Savannah- Joe Hohenstein. My guess is total cost would be around $3000-4000.
This is a rare soft window, I know because I have a 70’
911E soft window. I have only seen a couple 911S softies. But E’s you don’t see. This is a gorgeous color combination. I will watching this one.
