Up for auction is this custom 1969 Porsche 912.  Beginning as a barn find project, this long-wheelbase 1969 example was acquired by the current owner about five years ago and has since undergone a custom restoration in Slate Grey.  The cabin was completely redone and fitted with Houndstooth-upholstered seats, RS-style carpeting and door panels, classic 356-style gauges, and a TRE vintage harness bar.  The brakes were sourced from a 911SC along with a 3.0L engine which has been fully rebuilt and upgraded with JE pistons, ARP rod bolts, 911S-type cams, reworked heads, a standalone EFI system, and PMO EFI throttle bodies.  The suspension was also overhauled and upgraded with parts from Rebel Racing and Tarett Engineering.  With less than 3k miles driven since the completion of the engine build and restoration, this beautifully executed 912 is now being offered by its seller out of California.

During the restoration, the passenger-side floor pan was replaced and this 912 underwent a full glass out respray in the classic nonmetallic Porsche color of Slate Grey.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  A 911R-style front bumper was fitted along with an RS-style rear bumper and genuine 16” Fuchs wheels in a custom RSR finish.  These wheels were dressed in new Dunlop Direzza ZII within the last 2k miles and tread depth readings are provided in the gallery.

The cabin was completely redone with RS-style carpeting and door panels, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, and black leather Houndstooth upholstered 911S seats by GTS Classics.  Other features include a TRE vintage harness bar, a rear seat delete, a passenger-side fire extinguisher mount, a 915 shift tower, and custom 356-style instrument dials with green markings.  There is no air conditioning or sound system, and all other gauges and electrical functions are said to be working properly.

This 912 has been equipped with an air-cooled 3.0L flat-six engine sourced from a 911SC.  Within the last 3k miles, this engine has been fully rebuilt and fitted with oil-fed Carrera chain tensioners, JE pistons, ARP rod bolts, Clevite bearings, reworked heads, Turbo valve covers, SSI heat exchangers, upgraded valves, custom 911S-type cams, crank fire ignition, an electronic fuel injection system, and PMO Weber-style throttle bodies.  The oil tank was also carried over from a 911SC along with a fender-mounted oil cooler.  Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 901 manual gearbox with an upgraded billet differential cover.  The brakes were sourced from a 911SC and paired with upgraded braided stainless-steel lines.  The suspension was upgraded with components from Rebel Racing and Tarett Engineering including Bilstein coilovers, RSR-style sway bars, 935-style Heim-jointed rear trailing arms, adjustable drop links, monoball bushings, and a bump-steer kit.

This sale will include a clean California title. With its upgraded performance and classic styling, this 912 makes a perfect choice for any passionate air-cooled driver.

@Dasjr Thanks for clarifying, yes you are correct. Difficult to see unless you are couching down. Apologies for. the confusion.

  • Dasjr (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@Stunt_Road You sure? The lower bumper on the drivers side appears to be scratched. Also the right rear bumper bumperette appears to show a small scratch. It’s there in a couple different photos so I’m thinking it can’t be a reflection. Can you take a couple close-ups of those two areas?

Can anyone comment on the perceived value difference in a backdated 912 vs a 911?

  • Stunt_Road (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@Dasjr Thanks for asking, what you are seeing are refelctions, there are no meaningful scratches or blemishes in the paint.

@Jad930 The engine was dyne tuned at the Church Dyno in Wilmington, California. The engine made 247 Wheel HP at 6500 RPM, and 220 Ft Pounds or torque at 5250 RPM. So that is around 282 HP at the Crank 255 Ft Pounds, The torque curve is very flat and puts out 1700 Ft Pounds (205 Ft pounds crank) at 1500 RPM! The 3.0's Redline is 7500 RPM! I asked PCAR to post the Pics from the dyne tuning session. AC retrofit kits do exist in the aftermarket.

  • Jad930 2 years, 10 monthsago

    Was the engine dynoed?
Does anyone know if retrofitting AC in an early car is an option?
    Beautiful car.
