Vehicle Details

  • Year: 1970
  • Make: Porsche
  • Model: 911T
  • VIN: 9110100885
  • Mileage: 85,143mi (TMU)
  • Transmission: Manual
  • Title Status: Clean
  • Color: Silver
  • Seller Type: Private Party
  • Location: Minneapolis, MN 55413
  • Lot #: V-0040227

In the 1970 model year, the 911T continued as the entry-level version of the 911, featuring all the improvements introduced with the new C-Series including a longer wheelbase, Fuchs alloy wheels, and a 2.2-liter engine. This 1971 Coupe comes finished in silver over black upholstery, optioned with a limited-slip differential, the Appearance Group, and an auxiliary heater. Owned by a single family for 51 years, this barn find is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Minnesota.

Factory-finished in Silver Metallic, this 911T is said to have been stripped to bare metal in 1981 in preparation for a respray. The work included replacing the left door jamb, other bodywork as necessary, and a refinish with an epoxy primer-base coat, acrylic primer surfacer, catalyzed acrylic enamel color of silver, and a Deltron catalyzed clear coat. The optional “Appearance Group” includes 911 S-type trim including gold rear lettering, aluminum rocker panel trim, and protective rubber moldings over the bumperettes. It rides on 14” Fuchs alloy wheels dressed in Pirelli P-6 tires from 1992. The seller recommends a paint detail and notes two small scratches on the rear decklid near the “H” in the rear Porsche lettering. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin presents black upholstery spanning the seats, dashboard, and door panels. A matching carpet lines the floor, and a contrasting beige headliner completes the surroundings. Equipment includes roll-up windows, VDO instrumentation, a four-spoke steering wheel, and a locking glovebox. The seller adds that an auxiliary heater was opted for. Additionally, a Recaro driver’s sport seat was fitted and the original factory seat will accompany the sale. The odometer is said to have been replaced on 4/21/1972 at 18,861 miles, summing to an estimated actual mileage of 104,005. Some wear is noted including split seams on the seats and some carpet pulling. The operational status of the electronics and accessories has not been confirmed.

The 911T equips a 2.2-liter flat-six engine sending power to the rear wheel through a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller states the engine and transmission were removed and rebuilt in 1992 at an odometer reading of 78,525 at a total cost of $7,600. A detailed invoice is said to accompany the sale and shows a host of newly installed items at the time, including stainless steel heat exchangers. The seller states the vehicle has not been started since around 2005 for fear of causing damage.

This sale will include a clean title and the factory driver’s seat, along with a host of documentation including a factory workshop manual.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. This vehicle has been in the family for 51 years and during that time it has always been stored inside during the winter; it has never been driven in snow. Stored inside and not been driven since about 2000. Basic mechanicals are sound; with good servicing, it will be ready for the road. Interior needs some work; I think that Porsche is better at engineering than making durable upholstery.  Service records go back to initial delivery, and a 1970 factory shop manual is included with the car. My father loved this car, you will too!

There is a photo of the paint code plate (on left front doorjamb) in the gallery already. Didn't notice any bad smell in car; it has been in DRY storage, not sitting outside or in a damp basement..

  • mn911moby (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

@pcars - LOL, it's a 54 year old car! It's probably not going to have that "new car smell".

Just added four photos of the dashboard. Leather looks good with no cracking. Dash is dusty on the left side; I missed it when vacuuming interior. The two hooks in middle are for lifting out radio speaker; perhaps my father was doing something with radio but just guessing on that.

No tool kit—stolen when in for service. Have invoice for engine rebuild; will post. Rolls fine; I was able to move it out of garage for photos and back in afterwards.

  • Don3699 (registered bidder) 2 months, 1 weekago

Thanks. Is the tool kit present? Also do you have the engine rebuild invoice? Does the car roll easily or are breaks seized?

  • kurthayek (seller) 2 months, 1 weekago

According to the Maintenance Record (photo posted) the vehicle was delivered to purchaser on 9 April 1970 with 62 miles on odometer and engine serial 6107606 (same number as photographed here). I seem to recall hearing that this car was used as a demo before sale (accounting for the miles on odometer). So, it's possible then engine was replaced, or the hand written engine number on the sticker is incorrect (doesn't look like an engine serial to me).

Added a number of photos showing underside of car, especially front suspension area.

Wood pieces under front floor mats are original and are built into car.

Engine can be turned over using wrench on pulley.

In photo #60 is that a piece of plywood in the passenger footwell? Can you remove to expose underneath?

  • kurthayek (seller) 2 months, 1 weekago

Just added a photo of the body work in 1981; a Polaroid and not the sharpest. This is the left side of the car and the door sill/rocker panel has just been replaced; till has the welding ground clamp attached. My mistake as I called this the door jamb not door sill.

Added more photos including front floor without mats, engine number stamping, area along lower right side including some of underside, right and left wheel well areas, front underside area, and original window sticker and maintenance record first sheet. Note the engine number listed matches the stamping in photo.

Trying for more underside photos today; have ramps and maybe can winch front of car up on ramps (it does have front tow hooks according to window sticker).

Wonderful find, I’m an interested bidder, but I want to bid with confidence, any chance of getting underside photos of the car? Specifically the front suspension pan, and longitudinals? Thank.

Is there rust depicted where the front fenders meet the rockers? Any rust you can identify for the bidders?

There is a photo in the gallery of the data plate on the left inside door jamb. Going to add a photo of the original window sticker. I think that the description of Fuchs wheels is not accurate (was added by auction site). Wheels on car are normal Porsche mags as far as I know (I saw enough of them and heard enough about wheels, etc. as my father and I visited a Porsche mechanic friend of his every Sunday afternoon. Shocks on car are Bilsteins (fronts have about 26,000 miles and rears have about 16,000 miles on them). Also has Weber carbs now.

Did not find any invoices for rustproofing but not to say it hadn't been done. Did Find a note in service records about applying rustproof around front turn lights and grills (5-20-81, 41072 odometer; probably Texaco Compound L based on what we used—worked well but very sticky and oily—I know from experience).

Any information about the original build (COA, window sticker or invoice)? 14” Fuchs were an option or they came with the Comfort option which included hydropneumatic front suspension. I see what looks like Bilstein front struts. I don’t think they were an option. Possibly an upgrade, but from what. Sway bars? It looks like this car may have been rustproofed (Ziebart?) from the plugs in the rockers. Some undercarriage photos would be helpful.

Any chance of getting some detailed pictures of the chassis? Particularly the rocker panels /longitudinals, and where the torsion bars attach to the chassis. Also a good picture of the stickers / plates inside the drivers door jamb. Thanks...

  • kurthayek (seller) 2 months, 1 weekago

I'll see if I can lift the front floor mats tomorrow (weather will be warmer). Seem to recall that matting was fastened down so I couldn't get photos before; will check again. I'll see about some underfloor photos also.

Any chance of some pictures of the front footwells under the carpet to show the condition of the floor? And similarly from under the car (suspect no chance of getting it on a lift, so some illuminated underfloor shots from the side would help)?

  • kurthayek (seller) 2 months, 1 weekago

Welcome! Thank you for taking a look at the "Silver Bullet" (as my father and I called it). Gosh, time flies; hard to believe it's been 51 years since my father purchased this car! If you have any questions please let me know.
    Thank you, Kurt Hayek
